I was speaking to a very reputable dealer in Malmesbury Wilts yesterday, and they import new cars into the UK from Japan and European sources. They have a WRX R 250 which has 250bhp and a different engine which has variable valve timing ( so it revs to 8,000 rpm)for 18,250 on the road. Its also got a rear wash wipe aswell.
Anyone got one of these or heard of one ?
They sell the UK spec for the same price brand new also, but did say the Jap one was much better.
I know Insurance could be a problem but they assure me they've sold loads of them.
They will service it so no probs there and provide a warranty.

Any comments ????

sideways

It is basically a standard jap spec WRX (non Sti)
I looked at one of these before playing safe and going for a UK spec MY01 last year. Very similar to to a UK WRX but with the variable valve timing 250bhp engine (and a rear wash wipe )

The as well as the 16 in wheels already mentioned the standard Japanese domestic market WRX does not get the 4 pot brakes that our WRX gets...only 2 pot! Not sure of the Type R though as there were a couple of upgrades...but its worth checking.

Some info on http://www.iwoc.co.uk/jpnewage.html

Regards

They had a special edition WRX in Japan last year & the car is fitted with export spec 17" rims & 4-pot brakes as standard, it also has a higher-level rear spoiler. Don't remember the actual name of the car.
The 17" rims fitted to export spec cars actually came from the pre-facelifted Legacy B4 RSK.

Thanks to AJBaseBloke for the corrections. For details (in Japanese but the pictures are pretty clear) checkout http://210.254.95.20/showroom/imp_nbr/ as it seems I was wrong to say the NB-R comes with 2 pots and 16in wheels.

U're correct in saying the standard JDM WRX NB has 16" rims & 2 pot brakes, it's only the WRX NB-R that gets the 17" & 4 pots.

Yeah, there is an NB-R: a Rex with the 17" wheel/4-pot+2-pot package as mentioned above. Personally I think the nicest bit is the STi suspension package - it can be a bit jiggly, but when going a little hard, it can be magic. It also has the same wing design as the STi Ltd (i.e. higher). It is the highest spec non-STi Rex AFAIK.

Inverted STi struts:

Rear wing (the std one with an extension - note the spoiler on the deck):

Hope that is actually it
