Depends on whether you are bothered about dealership services or not and potential resale values.
All the cars start life in a factory in Japan. They become imports or not based on whether they are brought in by IM (the official importers) or someone else.
My view is provided you buy or can get a 3 year 3rd party warranty that covers you for the big things then don't worry about it. There are shedloads of Scooby experienced people out there who can service your car to standard, eg Scoobysport, Graham Goode Racing, Power Engineering, etc.
That would be enough to convince me that saving £7K via an import over a car bought here is well worth it. Your choice, your decision.

I imported MY02 WRX from Belgium saving around 5k. The car has the standard manufacturers warranty for 3 years in the EU. If I need work performed on my car under warranty, the dealer will claim from Subaru Belgium. I have this in writing from Subaru UK.
Untill the UK dealer get nearer our EU dealers pricewise I will be purchasing from the EU all day long.
Dave.
