I've been monitoring the second hand private sale scooby market for the last 6 months and now, just as I'm ready to buy all the decent MY99's have vanished and those that are out there the prices being asked are considerably higher then a few months ago! What's going on with that??? Not a happy chappy

Hi m8
Quite agree. I've been looking for a couple of months now but all seem to be high miles - high price. One day!!!!

Guys, what sort of money are you wanting to spend ? My Company has a number of MY99 (V plate) on their books. I will be buying mine which, at 45k miles will go for about £10.5k. Unfortunately they have just sold all the T platers to Auction. As an example, one of them had done 80k miles and went for £9.5k.

There will be some more V platers due up later this year (Oct/Nov). If you are interested, let me know.

Cool

Saxo Boy,
I'm almost in the market (about a month to go) and have also noticed the supply dry up and rise in price, there's a couple of good ones in the Trader (on-line) this week but they are still expensive. Also there seems to be a good amount of stock at the dealerships, but again way too high £17k for a w reg !!, when the time does come for me to splash the cash if I can't get one of this board from a similar enthusiast then I'll be forced to go to the dealers and start offering £1.5k - £2k of wind screen price.
Good luck in your search.

Its only on scoobynet that people think the cars are worth nothing and you would not believe what I was offered for my grey import classic part ex whioch I thought was a good fair offer to be honest. If I posted in the sales section I would get 150 replies telling me I wouldnt get that for it . Point is there is a lack of classics with low miles and good condition with the toys on board (UK or grey) when one comes along it doesnt take long to sell it. I see that people want 2000 models for under 14K and now I realise it was a wise investment in going grey as the part ex price was a lot better than that .

Yep Im looking im just about in the market for a low mileage (<15k) MY00 classic with a few goodies (PPP, SS BB would be nice) and there is nothing. Sods law me thinks - last few months Ive seen loads of nicely specced cars for sale. Maybe its a sign that I should save for another 6 months and get the P1

Simon.

Problem for me is I must sell the Saxo first which will leave me car-less so I can't afford to wait around too long after that before getting my replacement. I'll be looking for an MY99 saloon with (preferably) less than 35K miles on the clock and in good condition for about £11-13k. I have seen good examples advertised at about 12k ono but they've all disappeared. Phil your car is very, very nice but it's an MY98 and I want a 99 and it's got too many miles on the clock for me. Good luck with the sale though

Same problem here, but I want to buy a new one. (which will probably be out of stock by the time mine sells )

If I could get some people to see the car it will probably sell straight away as it is VERY tidy for the year, but no luck so far!

Got a letter from Lister's at the weekend, suggesting that they have a lot of people after old shape models, and offering reasonable prices for new models (1000quid+ discount) for existing customers wanting to upgrade.

Shame the new shape is so fugly...

For me it's the MY98 v MY99 thing! According the the SIDC FAQ the MY99 has way more stuff (4 pots, clear lights, 2-vane bumpter, etc) There's just no friggin good MY99's around except on forcourts with a £15k price tag - dream on!!!!!

Saxo Boy I believe Subaru dealers artificially inflate prices to make punters belive the depreciation isn't too bad, so they buy new ones. There appears to be a bigger difference between dealers and private sales than with other manufacturers. Just IMO of course.
However someone must be buying them.

Theoretical scenario: You see a 99 turbo in good nick on a forcourt for £13995. What do you guys think is the lowest you could talk the dealer down to paying cash with no part-exchange to worry about?

The one I test drove was DBM, and W reg. £16,500 sticker price. Now at 15k I might have considered it but 16.5 is taking the ****.

That's fairly good value, what mileage/condition/etc. Is that a 'would be' or an 'am'

Won't be in a position to buy for a month or two but would be interested if you ever want to let it go.

The reason the car is on their forecourt is because it has been part exchanged against a (probably)new car (for I'd guess £11.5-£12k) Given the car has been part exchanged that means the person has paid book price for the new car. With no part exchange they would have been able to get a couple of grand off the list price of the new car, that leaves that for you to bargain with against the second hand model.

As a side note I paid less than £1k more than that sticker price for my MY00 when I bought it new (UK Spec (personal)Euro Import)
