Default The next step for more power...

Morning all,

I've had my 05 blob STI for about 2 months now and I'm absolutely loving it. I initially believed I'd be happy with the 335bhp and wouldn't get tempted to do exactly this...However, I've got the bug now and would like your opinions on what the most beneficial upgrades would be to improve power/performance in general.

Current mods are as follows:

-Stainless Steel 3" w' Prodrive Sports Cat
-ECUtek Remap
-Tein Springs
-HKS BOV
-Pink Front Badge (Car guy down the road said this is good for 40bhp)

Many Thanks

Someone will be along very soon to tell you to upgrade your brakes first or you will die in a big all of flames.

I say new turbo and remap
Not sure what injectors your car has but I would guess they will be running close to their limit!

I would say you need a panel filter. If i put a standard paper one back in mine it choaks the car and drives terrible ( it was mapped with it)

will have brembo brakes so no need to upgrade, upgrading pads, disks and lines if wanted though.

Turbo will be your limiting factor, also sack the cat and decat it fully.

How far are you looking to go? 400? 500? How deep are your pockets?

I'd like 400. Not entirely sure the easiest way to get there!

Will be a progressive build, can't see myself selling for any reason over the next couple of years!

Dont get caught up with the numbers game, Would 370-380bhp be no different then say 400bhp for instance?? I know its nice to say I got a 400bhp car but in the real world is a extra 20bhp going to make all the difference, Id be looking at a car that can spool up quicker and make a nice fast usable road car, and more important reliable!!

400+bhp turbo is going to cost you a fair whack(££££), where as under 400bhp you can still get away with some of the VF range turbo's from the newer STi's(Hatch VF43 etc) there good for 370-380bhp with some bolt on mods and wont cost you the earth to pick a used one up. Anything over 400bhp will start costing you big money.

400+bhp is nothing to rant about, you soon get used to it and then you just want more again, like said above save your money 370/380 is fine.

Brilliant shout, i wouldn't be complaining at all with 370-380! I appreciate around 400 become the need for further supporting additions

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but, sadly, you've been grossly misinformed. The pink front badge only adds 25 bhp.

My experience of this game is that whatever you end up with won't be enough. The first time a Porsche 911 edges away from you you will want more power. Once the next mods and an SC46 (or 321T) are in place 'ordinary' 911s cease to be of interest but 911 Turbos? Then cost starts to get out of hand.

But if you take the 'start low' route you can spend a fortune on the next upgrades. If I was doing it again I would go straight to the 450bhp turbo and supporting mods and forget the incremental approach. You may think now that 380bhp will be enough, but I bet it won't!

You're right Sarg, 225, then 265, then 330, then 443' I must admit with this one I nearly shat myself as it had a fast road set up and almost begged you to go quicker.

Just be happy with what makes you happy . Andy

Bought my 2005 wide track almost 3 years ago now completely standard apart from exhaust and gone up through the power bit by bit until I have done fully forged build

Before too it off the road it was running 450/414... absolutely awsome car bags of power all the way through the gears and killed off pretty much everything on the road..

Here's the build thread if you want to have a look

https://www.scoobynet.com/projects-40/972968-2005-wide-track-blob-sti-project.html

Top Mount wise I was running just over 420bhp and didn't have any problems.. but I still say one of the best mods I ever did was braided lines and upgraded disks and pads all the way.
