Not sure if this has done the rounds on Scoobynet yet, but Motorpoint have (new) UK spec STI's Euro imports for £20999. Anyone dealt with Motorpoint before? Just curiosity at the moment - don't know if I would really want to change my car - only had it for 8 months ![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Apparently yes their Imprezas are sourced from Cyprus so IM dealerships won't touch them for servicing. I looked around the place a couple of years ago when they were one of the first car supermarkets as recommended on Top Gear and by various magazines. The stock they had (which was a lot) was much duller than the stuff that appears in the press adverts and the interesting cars didn't seem such good value - don't think they did any Scoobs then though. Particularly the "nearly new" rather than just used cars were as much as you could import a brand new car for yourself at the time. They also offered a terrible trade in price on the car I had with me and customer service was not great (even by Subaru standards
) I seem to remember them saying something along the lines of they were there solely to sell cars cheap and if I didn't have my money with me there and then they weren't that interested so I wouldn't expect aftersales care to be good. That said the car market has changed a lot in 2 years and they may well have done too. Oh yeah - staffed by 16 yr olds who knew nothing about anything.

Chris,
I have also heard that Motorpoint source their cars via Cyprus. I have also heard that IM have stated that cars coming from Cyprus will not be dealt with by the UK dealers as they are not from an EU country.
I'm not sure TBH if Cyprus is or isn't an "EU country" but I would look into it very carefully if I were you before making a decision.
Besides, there are other issues at the moment also with regards to insuring and warrnties for EU spec STi's also which need to be ironed out.
Chris/Phil, give us a call if you want to chat about it.....
Ta,
Matt

Not really one for current affairs or politics but I'm sure Cyprus isn't in the EU and I don't think it is one of the countries looking to join soon. Greece would be the nearest member I expect.
Hope this helps.

If Motorpoint are sourcing thier cars from within the EU then I would ask them to prove that!!!! I've heard from more than one source that they get them via Cyprus and IM won't cover them if this is the case....

John,
I'm afraid it's not that simple. The car comes with the CoC because it complies with EU TA. However, if that car is then supplied to a non-EU country before being supplied into the EU, IM will class it as a non-EU car and therefore won't cover it.....

Interesting stuff - as I said curiosity really - Motorpoint's prices were pointed out to me by a mate and I thought the best place to post up on this would be here! For the record, Cyprus is in the process of joining the EU, but not yet in - so that would need to be looked at.
As with all these things, you pay your money etc, but at this price it would seem worthwhile to check them out.
Thanks for the info.

Hi All,
The fact that IM have instructed dealers not to service non-EU STi's smacks of the same instruction regarding Jap Imports such as the old model STi.
Even so, you could always fins a Scooby dealer willing to service them.
Alternatively, I believe Motorpoint do their own warranties which means for teh first year it should be covered by Subaru worldwide and the other 2 by a 3rd party warranty.
This means that you could take advantage of cheaper, specialist servicing by independents such as Scoobysport etc. and save at least 5K !

I'll varify that Cypriot cars are none EU conformity.
Having worked there for 3 yrs the cars they get are JDM spec and not Euro spec and even if they were euro spec they would have to endure an SVA test due to Cyprus being an non euro country (even though it use to be a UK owned country), pre 72.

"£22995.00" for an import?? Go to your local dealer & buy 1 for
£2000 more - You will lose a fortune on an import when you
come to trade up!!!
And you get 3 Years "proper warranty!!" Not 1 Year and 2
"Mickey Mouse Years"
