Default Dash cams, talk to me...

Morning all,

I had an accident in my Impreza that wasn't my fault but is going down as mine, if I had a dash cam I could have proved it.

So, what's a good dash cam?

Ideally I would like one with a small camera I can mount to the screen and the box/brains of it be left elsewhere like the glovebox, I know Halfords do dash cams where the whole thing is on the screen and if I can't find what I'm after I'll end up with one of those but need to do some research first.

So what can my fellow peeps of SN recommend for me?

Thanks

I have an HP F210 in both cars mounted on front screen just adjacent the interior mirror stalk and they are not intrusive. Works brilliantly, HD video and it will take a 128GB card as well, logs location and speed using GPS to go with the video

cheers

Yodi speak to scoobyclinic they have a deal on at the moment. You will have to call them as the offer is not on their web site.

I have a Mi Witness in my car, front and rear HD cameras.
The units are small, the front one sits in front of my rear view mirror (it's about 3 inch long tube, about 1 inch wide) and the only time I remember it's there is when it annouces it has found the GPS signal. The rear is smaller still and my eye just glazes over it now.
The units are hard wired in (the smart battery will stop your car battery getting drained), so there is no worries about forgetting to turn it on, and it is recording 24/7, so helps if you are hit whilst parked.

There's plenty of reviews out there, I read a lot of them, bought this one and am very happy with it.

sorry to hear about the accident

one thing you should download straight away is an app called 'autoguard pro' it's only £1.79 and will give you piece of mind until you choose a dedicated camera I must have 20 near misses that I have put on youtube using that app.
I saw a bus waiting to turn right across my path and a truck behind it, so I let the bus go across and then a ******** Audi appeared behind it and I nearly T boned it

I finally chose to go with a 'transcend drivepro 200' dedicated dash cam. It's an all in one, so I can use it in my work van during the week and then unplug it and stick it in the scoob on a weekend. I only had it 4 days when this happened in the van, the claim is going through now, he denied liability and said the accident was my fault

you can see the difference in quality, but for less than the price of a coffee, the app could be enough to save you until you read some reviews

These are the two that I think I like just dont know which I prefer of if the NEXT BASE is worth the extra, although I prefer the shape/size of it.

out of the 2 links you have put on, mine is the second one. it has a wider angle lense and is a smaller unit. it has WIFI so you can just download clip straight to your phone, or watch clips on you phone to see what happened. also, 1,200 reviews and 4.5 out of 5.

It started before the accident, I was moving from the left hand lane on the motorway in to the slip lane, he came flying past me and I nearly hit him, on the slip road he jumped out ranting and telling me to pull over. He went to pull into the layby and I was just going to drive past, that's why he pulled back out in front of me.

flip it, I'll link all the clips for you

I filed a claim against him, but he has disputed liability.

I have done a full write up and included all the dashcam footage to send to my insurance company (I had just sent them the accident clip). I have told them in which clip you can hear the copper saying 'I've just explained to him, with that footage as evidence, the insurance will blaim him for the accident'
Don't think he's got a leg to stand on

I have two cameras, a Blackvue DR500GW and a Transcend Drivepro 200, reason I have two is that the Blackvue packed up after 15 months of ownership, I have managed to send it off for repair but am still waiting it back after two months, so bought the Transcend one in the meantime.

Below is an accident I caught with the Blackvue, the black car said it was the fault of the red car, it's a bit far away to see clearly but basically he pulled out without looking, once the footage was shown to him he admitted liability.

Without that last video, of the actual impact, you really wouldn't have stood a chance (unless someone in the layby stepped up as a witness), proving it's good to have cameras.

Have your insurer got it settled yet?

Hi,
Just to let you know that a number of our insurance schemes offer discounts for a wide range of in-car cameras.
Regards,
Dan.

I think he was just wanting a fight. He must have some serious issues to be that aggressive at 7.30 in a morning.

I wouldn't stand a chance without the footage. If he had done that and I hadn't got a dashcam, I would have taken him up on the offer of a fight and kicked 7 shades out of the jumped up ****

are they not going to prosecute that **** for road rage? pretty sure you shouldn't block someone on a road, get out and give them the finger. or attempt to swerve out at someone on purpose causing an accident. I think the insurance issue should be the least of his worries tbh.

I still can't believe how he acted, he's one of the most irate drivers I've seen. He must have been on a mission when he left the house (arguing with his wife/ money or work problems) and then he was speeding up the slip road, I indicated left and started to move left and he came flying past me. I pulled in behind him and called him a w4nker. That must have made him flip

If I had undertaken someone at speed when they were indicating and moving left, then pulled in behind me and called me a w4nker, I would just hold my hand up to apologize (knowing I had done wrong)

life is too short to be angry over petty things

anyway, back to the thread. how do people compare the difference in footage quality?
one reason I went for the drivepro 200 was the 160 degree wide angle lense, what angle are other ones?
do others come with wifi or computer software?

That's nuts! He got so angry. I would have wound him up so he hit first then just battered him

Did he even explain why he pulled into the layby?

Good quality footage

the Mivue manager is great if you have been on a spirited drive, found this on you tube to give an idea.

Another vote here for the Transcend Drive Pro 200

Bought this after the usual research, and then Auto Express rated it the best all round the week I bought it.

Dead easy to set up (buy the screen mount) and use automatically.
Really simple, full HD, solid build and compact.
