Default Alcatek ecu opinions

Does anyone have any personal experience with the alcatek ecu?

I'm looking into purchasing one from scooby clinic and getting mapped in by them?

Is it any good or should I just save more and get syvecs?

Here's my take having had one for a few years - it's a very capable ECU with lots of features as standard. However, Andy Leech's service is well below where it should be. If you stay at the same mapper it helps too; if you want a tweak or a re-map elsewhere, your new mapper needs an unlock code for the ECU, otherwise you cannot affect the software. I had a very well known mapper request the code, he was promised it, it did not get sent by Andy. This failure cost me a lot of money for a few reasons (I'd booked a holiday to coincide with the mapping process) and resulted in a very long journey back to the original mapper (circa 1000 miles round trip) in order to check the map. Would I recommend? No. Great ECU, poor customer support/response times. Save your pennies, unless there are specific features you have to have to support mods.

Only features I would need is mafless, anti lag and launch control

If I was to get syvecs where would be the best place to buy one and get it fitted and mapped?

To those not in the know, what is the difference between Alcatec and Syvecs (and anyother brand, for that matter)?

Not much.A Alcatek ecu would do most things that is needed for 99% of builds and O.E engines .Syvecs has got alot of extras, but talk to any mapper and he will tell you the same thing as above. If you have got the extra money go for Syvecs if not the Alcatek is more then capable for your needs and still a top rate ECU.SJ.

I took a syvecs because i also wanted to have a toucan (really lovely device) and it only worked with syvecs at the time (ofcourse, not much later it also got Alcatek support).

But the second reason i went for syvecs is that most tuners say it is the best and gives them the best tools to do their job. I spend a lot of money on the car and tuning an engine to optimal performance is a delicate thing, so i wanted to be sure the tuner had the best tool to do the best job possible.

Hi there

From personal experience I would go with Syvecs,we are went with Syvecs and we are never looked back at any ECU which are on market

With Syvecs you are getting best ECU on market and best after sale support and if you are really struggling, there is their forum which is really helpful

Plus if you want to datalog, you don't to get extra dongle or anything, everything is there and you can datalog what you want,SW is free and easy to use

Really depends on spec of the car and what you want from ECU...But I would go with Syvecs and speak with yours mapper first and would go with ECU which he would recommend

Hope this helps

Thanks,Jura

I had a problem with an Alcatek, sent it in for repair 8 months ago, no sign of it, no reply, total waste of money, I also have a Customer who has waited months to get some software from them, when it finally came it was the wrong version, even after sending the the ecu number etc. I use a Simtek pro on my car and it's spot on, Steve is always very helpful and it has everything a Syvecs has for alot less money, they are also toucan compatible now I believe.

That seems to be the only rub really,is their aftercare or if you need an hardware software upgrade to run AVCS etc...I had that same problem with my wife's Alcatek ecu for her car,it took months and constant telephone calls to get it back,i personally would of thought that they would of sorted that side of their business out by now,Oh well!....SJ.

It's a great ecu, but just the aftercare. Mine took 4 months for a avcs update but glad car was off road and going through a build so was ok for me. Many others have had the same problem

This.
It's what put me off totally, great capable ecu, but a whole load of hasstle hence you see a lot for sale nowadays, you figure.
So for this reason, bought syvecs to avoid any future problems, no faffing with codes to unlock and open for any mapper to divulge, oh and array of features and option for future usage if needed too.

Syvecs maps can be locked by a mapper if he decides to do that so don't think that can't happen. Speaking from personal experience there !!

If the mapper takes the trouble to think ahead and request access patch/upgrade or whatever ahead of time instead of being mr "last-minute.com" then AlcaTek respond well. Thats my experience, like any company problems occur and like any company people moan but if the mapper concerned takes the trouble to talk to Alcatek then there should not be a problem, sit back and wait then you can wait. yes it can take some effort ... but getting hold of me sometimes can be like that we are busy people

Just my experience here ... fwiw

wms-racing you are a declared SS supporter and you do yourself no good by your post .. !!

my input
