compression results

I always harp on about this but I would get a leak down test done if you're suspecting compression issues. The regular compression testers that hold the needle are (IMO) not going to be an exacting measurement for a less than desirable valve seating issue for example. Think of it a bit like one of those cardboard ballon pumps you used to have as a kid. put your finger over the end and push it fast and you'll feel a good pressure but slowly push it in and you'll get hardly any pressure as the air leaks easily past the two parts of the tube. Have a small hole in the tube and push it hard again, it may well still be 'within peak spec' but try and inflate a balloon and it'll be no good. Stick an air line on the pump and you'll hear air coming out the hole. I know there are supposed to be 'figures' for good compression but realistically a basic test isn't of great use.
A regular compression test on my Sti I performed showed 'good' results but when I did a proper leak down test, you could hear air pi55ing past the exhaust valve seats.

no pal...I took my car for a service at a Subaru specialist in the north west area as its my new toy...the mechanic started putting all doubts in my mind saying it sounds like it had low compression,im not clued up on these cars mechanically so he recommended a compression test,i did so and all he said was its low on 1 and 3..thats it...so I took it elsewhere for a second opinion and it was 128 across all 4....he came across as a nice guy but I think the results today speak for themselves....there not low on 1 and 3 ....its the same across all 4....
