Default Importing a car from japan/what specialist

Hi all.
Not been on here a while as have been messing about with old escorts and more lately a lardy axxed mk2 green focus, didn't have that long.

I'm now looking for another car and even though I did not have much luck with my last impreza (version 6 type r limited) I'm looking for another the same.

I'm tempted to import 1 directly from japan and having never done this before could anybody give me some advice before I go to a specialist blind and possibly get my pants pulled down.

I looked at a few skylines and converted the prices over and they were really cheap, they were owned by an exporter in japan and not up for auction,I'm guessing the costs added on are for export documents, handling charges, shipping, import docs,uk handling.

Once it lands in the uk does it have to be converted before it can leave the docks or can I collect and do it myself or should I use a company from start to finish?
Or am I best using a company that will do it from start to finish,if so has anybody used a particular company before and willing to give them a good reference.

If it's an auction do I tell the agent my limit and they bid the car up to either my limit or till the other bidders reach their limits or are the bids put in beforehand and whoever has the highest bid wins the auction??

Any help would be great,thanks,lee

I know that a few of us on here have used Torque GT and personally I can't recommend them enough. They are very helpful and knowledgable guys. I purchased a car from them that they had already started the process of bringing it over and I was amazed at the quality of it.

They will also work with you to find exactly the car you want for the price you want from an auction, you just have to put £1000 upfront. They have guys in Japan who will go and inspect the car for you and tell you the quality, and send you photos.

They deal with all the deregistration, shipping, importing and UK registration for you. When I went to pick mine up they had loads of great Skylines they were bringing over for people.

Thanks for that,a good friend who tunes Japanese cars recommended torque gt too.
I looked at their stock list last night and they had a couple but both were sold.
I'm not totally decided on what I want,it's prob between an impreza and skyline.
Thanks.

OPJP - Original Parts Japan. They have a very good reputation and import cars as well as parts for JDM models!

I would recommend torque gt and JM imports. Both really helpful people and have a good reputation.
