Question

Hi All,

Looking around, it appears that a secondhand UK300 (about 1 year old) is approx. the same price as an imported non-Prodrive STi (brand new).

In your opinion, what are the pros and cons of each in terms of age but more importantly performance (I know teh STi has slightly more BHP but in reality does it make much difference) and spec.

As a summary, which one would you prefer to buy ?

In my opinion, the UK300 looks great (and a little better than a non-Prodrive STi) and is a limited edition UK car which may mean it holds it's value better.

What do you all think ?

Thanks,
Scooby Spy

no, buy my UK300
you can import an STI from Europe: don't forget to add the cost of an Alarm and a Tracker and there is a 6 month wait !!

I think I would buy a new car rather than a year old one.
Makes sense -

Seeing as I don't have either car to sell I'd go for the STi.

6 speed gearbox, stronger engine... Cosmetically you could make it look like a UK300 if you wanted to, but you're not going to change the engine and gearbox in the UK300 are you??

Why so many UK300's for sale

STI has a quicker steering rack, front LSD and shorter gear ratio's on top of the extra HP. Drive both, but for me the STI feels far more of a sportscar.

UK300 is a standard WRX wearing make-up, IMHO.

STI is totally different mechanicals.

I would never think that UK300 would hold its value so well.

PPP are available for both.

STi!

As stated above the UK300 was a body kit on the WRX, you even had to pay for the PPP!

The STi is a completely different car.

Cool

If I was upgrading my MY00, the STi with a PPP would be the essential purchase. Having been a passenger in one of the PPP development STi's, it's the only one worth considering (300+ Bhp I think!).

It's the dogs bollox!

Sounds real interesting !

It appears to be a similar arguement as to an RB5+PPP (dressed up Turbo) Vs imported STi v4/5 !

The RB5 has held it's value well against the imported STi's and is still desireable.

Not much of a contest ... it would have to be the STi - worth the wait. I love my WRX but if I could afford it I would have gone for an STi - maybe next time.

IMHO you can't really compare a UK300 with an RB5.
And I can be very objective,'cause I've never seen either.

The RB5 is a legend.
The UK300 will probably go down in history as a very car, for very people

Get the STi.

If you bear in mind my 93 Legacy will blow a STD UK300 away, both in terms of pace and fun, you know the Sti makes sense.

When I first drove a UK300 I was massively underwhelmed, I drove an Sti expecting the same sort of thing, and it just blew me away. In all seriousness it is the first Impreza I have ever driven, RB5 & P1 included, that I would swap my legacy for. If I had the money.

As a UK300 owner with PPP, I would say go for the STI. Test drove a STI and its an alround better package, even against the bugeye with PPP.

Bruce the only reason we are sad is, many UK300 owners thought they got well and truly stitched when Subaru released the price of the STI, even though we were being told at the time the UK300 came out, the STI would be at 30ish K, it ended up being no more expensive than the 300 and some of us maybe could not have stretched to the extra 4-5 grand. But it still looks the dogs danglies.

Cheers

Jim

Ive owned both a UK300 PPP as well as a UK STI 7. It would have to be the UK STI, although it does need a PPP to hopefully reduce the amount of lag.

Rum has also switched from a UK300 PPP.

Hi All

The new UK Sti is a great car but just a little too expensive for me so my choice was between an RB5 or a UK300. If I had the money, I would have bought a UK Sti over the UK300.

The RB5's are great but most dealers & private sellers were asking too much considering they are 3 years old now (sometimes 18k to 20k for WR Sport). That is too close to P1 prices or even a new UK Sti.

The UK300 looks great but they are basically a standard WRX with better styling.

I have just bought a UK300 with PPP and full scoobysport exhaust. Compared with RB5 prices, I got the UK300 for a very good price. Just hope it doesn't depreciate too heavily!!

Which one would you have gone for?
