Newage STI Rear Wing - starting to look a bit silly
I have owned my 05 WRX for 2 years now and 6 months ago, I thought it was a good idea to upgrade the exterior from standard to this:
Now, at first, I loved the change. But now, the sti wing just seems to look a bit childish. It is ridiculously large! The wheels are staying but I am actually considering going back to the ironing board wrx spoiler! what the hell is wrong with me?
Am I getting old?
Has anyone else had that embarrassing feeling of 'oh my fecking God, that looks stupid' when they look at their motor?
Raptor exhaust is also being replaced with a prodrive box as the dustbin look is just not doing it for me anymore.

I'm with you on this one, 5" dustbin and massive wing are a little over the top for me.
I'm tempted with a uk300 wing, somewhere in the middle between a high level sti wing and as you said the ironing board wrx wing
I've got one in same colour, I like it being silver people don't instantly twig its a scooby.
I need to get body coloured skirts on mine though, looks much neater

If you are going to wave that big Sti wing in other drivers' faces then you need the performance to be able to p*ss off into the distance when the occasion demands. A standard Sti can just about cut it, a 400bhp+ version is even better at disappearing up the road. Lolloping about in a WRX, sporting that wing, is bound to be embarrassing though!

I'm with you on this one, I keep trawling E-Bay for a WR Blue bootlid and wrx spoiler, I'm also swapping my 4.5 inch jap backbox for a smaller quieter version, I am nearly 40 though.

I'd go for the WRX spoiler. The rest of the car looks brilliant.
This is why I love my STi Spec D as it looks like a WRX....at a glance...to the untrained eye ;-)

I think that it is more the case that you are worrying too much about what other people think about you having an impreza at your age.
Why are you worried about what other people think?
Basing what you drive on your perception of what other people may think will start with you changing the spoiler & exhaust, but will end up with you driving a bland mobile just to fit in, & you will not be happy, but you will fit in. You will become a sheep, following the rest of the flock.
Driving an impreza is about going your own way, being an individual, despite what the people around you may think, or even because of the way the people around you may think.
You are being a bit of a rebel driving an Impreza these days, when fuel is so expensive, & the government is putting the motor tax up to ridiculous levels, & trying to get everybody to be happy driving a 1.0 ****-box. You are refusing to give in, no matter what pressure is put on you to drive a ****-box.
The spoiler & loud exhaust on the impreza set it apart from other cars, but to me that is the whole point of having an impreza. You should be proud of that spoiler & loud exhaust.
Without them the impreza is just another car...baa...baa.

I do love the big spoiler on a scoob, but they are very common now and are just extra weight being carried around (I must be getting old for saying that) I had a UK300 prodrive wing on my old WRX and it was a happy middle ground and also made the car look different.
Here a quick pic
Oh and if you want to sell the raptor exhaust then please pm me

I like the big wing on my STi to be honest, I think it suits the car. However, I think it should be reserved for the STi. I don't think the WRX has enough other lumps, bumps and beefed up parts externally to compliment the big wing, which is why it always looks out of place IMO.

Do you know for a fact it doesn't?
They are well known for bending in the middle at speed which must indicate some kind of down force being generated. Also someone who knows once told me that Spec D's are fitted with diffusers because they reduce instability induced by the lack of a spoiler.
Take it or leave it.

They may produce down force, they may even slow the car down LOL
For what downforce they create is wasted as it would never ever come into play on the uk roads, maybe on track just about by the skin of its teeth
IIRC the 22B Rear Spoiler created about 100kg of downforce at over 100 mph also IIRC it was (at the time) the only spoiler that did, and that could be because it was adjustable

The 'bending' in the middle of the wing is probably due to buffeting/dirty air produced as the air works it's way over the car and over all the lumps and bumps as the other poster put it. If anything the wing may reduce lift which the vast majority of cars suffer with (remember the Audi tt's crashing at high speed without the rear spoiler?) but doubt it actually produces positive downforce

My remapped WRX has MORE than that, (and i suspect many of them do), so I'll keep my wing cheers...

Really, with just a remap? That's absolutely incredible, what a mapper that must have been!

The fact that the spoiler is as flat as a pancake would suggest that any downforce is produces would be minimal.

Newage STI Rear Wing - starting to look a bit silly
Just spent the afternoon fitting the prodrive rear box and polishing the whole car.
Took some pics too in case I decide to sell it as I have got my eye on a tasty e92 330 coupe.
