Wife has a type r (V4) and the indicators and hazards stay static when in use, not flashing.

Tried all the fuses but no joy so wondering if it is something else.

It only happened after the car had an alarm fitted so assume it is their doing but just trying to sort if ourselves before driving all the way back to get them have a look

Dodgy flasher?

I keep seeing articles about them in the local papers all the time

There is a flasher relay somewhere behind the driver's side dash where you can't quite reach it unless your double jointed. The alarm "could" interfere if its faulty, so to rule that out the wires to the indicator circuits from the alarm unit need to be cut. Although I've never had this happen myself in my early years of fitting alarms, as installation-wise it "shouldn't" interfere with the flasher's operation.

The indicators on Zoes car are dodgy.

Turns out it was the indicator fuse relay after all. Alcazar was spot on (as usual ) with the position as they are so high up past the steering column that you can feel but not see unless you tilt the drivers seat back, rotate 180 degrees so your head is lying on the floor. Then with a flashlight stuck in your mouth you can just about see them. Theere are two fixed to a metal bracket , one is blue, one is the indicator fuse relay and it is secured to the bracket.

Now you can see why it is a pain to remove.

Found out this was the problem because you could hear the relay buzzing when driving , so it was on its way out.

The ignition relay is also somewhere up there too

 

You were correct, though my wife suggests we hire a very small Vietnamese person next time or someone from the Chinese state circus as I am sure they could do that manoeuvre far better than me

Maybe the ignition relay is that bloody blue thing

 

When I needed to remove mine, (to replace it with one for towing), I reached up and touched each one as the indicators were flashing, and settled on the one that I could feel ticking. so not so difficult.

BUT: I could NOT get the damn thing to come loose, so dragged it off, breaking the retainer. The new one hangs loose and hardly makes any noise now, and since my cancelling bit is worn, it's now dead easy to leave indicators on

 

well when you see the bracket in the picture you will see why

 

There's a relay missing of the bracket in your pic, Chris.

If the bracket mounts in the same place as an early car, just underneath the A-pillar under the dash, they are a right pig to get at.

Take it your lass is flashing properly now?
