300 miles round trip to meet John Banks and have him perform a 'custom' Tek 2 re-map, and boy was it worth it
The guy is a genius with his lap top, and able to explain everything he's doing, and why, to give a final outcome I didn't know was possible.
The pulling power in every gear is phenominal and lasts much longer than before. The poor Brembos got some stick I'll tell you
The car is so smooth, yet that 'thump' in the lower back I wanted is there when required, even better than my previous WRX.
I new the RB5 was a good scoob to have, and now it just got even better

John Banks is up in Scotland, but Power Engineering in Uxbridge offer the exact same ECU remapping services and use the same software.
At the moment i believe that it only works with cars newer than MY99.

Davy, your car was a pleasure to map, it played the game nicely for us and responded sweetly. Fuelling came into line quickly and was a nice 8-9% CO 3000-6000 RPM, going richer still over 6000 RPM for safety, boost control was neat and easy at 17 PSI (will go up a bit on a cold day or when you drive it hard), and the knock corrections were sporadic, scattered in different areas of the map and small (0.5 degrees typical like the standard car with all its cats) on a hot day - just enough to let you know it was advanced enough with the knowledge that the ECU can pull back over 8 degrees if it needs to, add fuel and drop the boost if it needs to.

RB5 is a MY99, on either a T or V plate. I have a RB5 WRSport on a V-reg It the one featured in EVO magazine last August number 411.

I think it's £625 plus VAT for the TEK2, but seemingly well worth it!! The TEK1 is a revised AE801 / AE800 map with fuel correction at the top end. Think this costs £150 plus VAT
Remember the JECS ECU is a 32 bit processor (20 MHz) as apposed to a Link that a 16 bit and slower processor speed. So this remap technology is far superior to having a LINK mapped

I do a custom map (Tek 3) for £625 for MY99/00 UK or STi 5/6/P1 I cannot do earlier or later cars - MY01/02/STi Jap/UK will hopefully follow later in the year. I have had to nudge my initial prices up a bit so that I was not under the price of Tek 2 installed and tested at specialists (£625 + VAT), but I am not VAT registered at present and have lower overheads. Tek 1 and 2 are available also mail order from Ecutek directly.
The Link is ideal for you if you have an earlier car, or the new cars sound quite good with it from what Pete Croney says about his MY01 if you cannot wait for Ecutek. Link is also better if you want to tune it yourself or fit large injectors.

Do I take it that you generally squeeze an extra 1 psi on to the old boost, owner willing? Think my STi V shows 16PSi on the boost gauge (too busy hanging on really )
Always though it might be OK to push it up by just the one Psi without worrying about longevity too much. Do you agree?
Also think I got my wires crossed from earlier posts, and it seems you CAN do an STi V with an Ecutech?

Nice one Davy :-) You've swayed me even further towards having this done! John gave me a brief drive with a tek2 ECU in the car before swapping my 802 for an 801, and I was impressed. Sounds like a custom map is even better...

Matt - options for pre 99 cars include PE Phase 1, Link, Unichip, various Apexi options.
Diesel - if it was my STI or P1 I would put 20 PSI on it and not worry. For a customer that is not monitoring things as much as I am perhaps 18 PSI would be more sensible, but if you want 17 that is fine.
