JDM twin-scoll - MY04
Hi guys
Previously an Evo owner (x2) and enthusiast but looking to purchase something maybe a little cheaper approx. 10k. I have come across a JDM twin-scroll widetrack MY04 for sale, this may have been discussed before but could someone give me a heads up whether these imported models are a decent buy and maybe anything I should be looking out for when I view?
As above, I have owned both an Evo VI and VIII MR both tuned to 380-390bhp. I have always been led to believe the Impreza is perhaps not as tuneable as the Evo's but what would I get with a stage 1 tune realistically?
Thanks guys in anticipation.

The JDM Newage Widetrack STi is pretty much the best pound for pound car in the Subaru range, unless you are looking at Spec C's or the RA models which are the next level up again.
If you have a link post it up and the feedback will be better balanced or someone may know the car. But £10k seems to be about right but will depend on condition, modifications, history etc, etc
But as this is Scoobynet be prepared for the idiot brigade to arrive soon.

I'm not familiar with the 'stage' tuning thing, but on my 2005 JDM wide track with cat back zorst, induction, 255lph fuel pump and a 3 port boost solenoid I got 365hp/365ftlbs @ 1.5 bar.

Sounds like power-wise I will be able to achieve what I was looking for, 400bhp would be nicer but that would equate to higher costs. I am torn between an Evo IX and the JDM twin-scroll at the moment, I am guessing a test drive of them both is what I need ideally.

I have been tempted by a X also but I was looking to spend that little bit less on weekend toy than £15-20k etc.

Very bad experience...Heard and read alot of good things about them but with me was exactly the oposite :-( Dont ask me for details. Do not wish to waiste my time talking about them.

I always used the Evo's as weekend toys mainly but you could happily drive them daily if you didn't mind the savage fuel consumption and compromised ride, I have a soft and comfortable Peugeot 307 which is so much easier to drive than a performance machine i.e. throttle response, noise levels etc. Depends whether you need to drive long distances to work or just in the evenings for social I guess.

I'm looking for one in white with a manual box but they are so bluddy hard to find, there is so many with the SSQ box I hate them, don't understand why they would make an evo with that auto box.

It's usually the bad reviews that get out more than good.

Interesting to see people coming out of the wood work with bad feedback stories, this is like the SC thread.
I have never dealt with Hurst, so cannot comment, hence my comment to the OP about taking someone with them who is more knowledgable about Subaru's.

Reading the Scooby Clinic thread, I was rather surprised by the sheer number of dissatisfied customers that emerged and shared their bad experiences – of poor customer service, intimidation, threats of legal action, charging far more than original quoted price, etc. No doubt the reason people didn't speak out sooner is because they thought Scooby Clinic was popular and highly regarded with many on here, and subsequently they didn't think criticism would go down very well on, as is often the case.
I can't help but think that if they had shared their stories sooner, it would have potentially saved a fair few unsuspecting customers travelling there in good faith, thinking the Clinic was a reputable specialist, only to receive an unacceptable service. Following this same principle, I recently shared my negative experience with a certain mapper. I've always been a firm believer - and even more so now - that bad experiences should be encouraged... as long as they are based on fact, of course.
Just because we don't read negative press about Hurst on here doesn't mean all customers leave happy, which I'm sure is the case with all car traders. Yes, they have a good rep on here, but it's for that very reason that customers who may have had a bad experience with them will feel as though they cannot speak out without receiving a barrage of abuse by those who had a good experience.
Quite simply, people generally prefer to avoid causing any aggro... except for a few trolls on here!

Problem is some of them are total bollox, or twisted with half truths. Some of the people coming out of the woodwork in that SC thread are exactly that. No business will ever get 100% satisfied customers, given they have been around for 25 years an are the oldest tuner/specialist and biggest out there i think its pretty fair to say they are doing a hell of allot right.
My old car for example, guy blames clinic for loads of problems he's had with it, i had it for 18 months with no issues, then you see this video of how he treats it and is it any wonder its breaking alot?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-GR...ature=youtu.be
Remember the thread a while back a guy came on saying he'd been up at clinic for 45 minutes waiting for them to have dinner and eventually gave up and went home, usual band wagon jumped on it, then the security camera photos got put up showing the guy was on site for less than 2 mintues. It's very easy to make stuff up.
Lets say you go in for a worn suspension bush, quoted price of £50 for the part, fitting and vat. If the garage finds its actually the suspension strut or both sides are worn then bill will be bigger than the original quote. So what should be done? should the garage ask does the owner want it done or not or just replace the one and let them headed off with duff other parts?
Break a subject down and it's rarely as simple or as one sided as made out.

I asked the guy complaining about the company the op may buy a car from to elaborate othe wise it's not helpful and a piontless post and comes across as scaremongering. No doubt there are many that won't post bad experiences due to pressure ect but thats the point they make no comment nobody knows any different. If you bother to come forward at least make it helpful to others and back it up with substance and fact. Maybe then the info becomes helpful to others obviously my opinion only
