A6 Avant pref in Datona grey
2.0 will suffice if it's just the family & the odd luggage lump / but as its a big car 3.0 if your long hauling & intending to tow..
It ticks the boxes for me & I like the car , ultimately your choice tho . Try & stretch a few more pounds to get a higher spec s line or black edition , / as with everything VAG
Running costs & servicing isn't pleasant , but little is this day / age

The first thing is, if you are only doing short journeys forget the BMW, modern diesels need good long runs out or the dpf's clog up and cause issues, if you want to use a towing car then range rover/land rover etc, much better choice for lower mileage trips

Fair play , If you want towing capacity the new 2016 ford ranger is the boy / entry level starts at £15-16 K & that's new / double cab , bikes in the back / cycles on the roof & scoob on the tow - can see it now lol

Tony has hit the nail on the head it's been a little while since I did any tow safe checks, but I would imagine most cars will struggle to pull a scooby on a trailer. BMW's weren't particularly good tow cars, with a MTPLM of 1600kg usually. Long of the short to get the MTPLM you take the vehicles gross weight from the train weight which give you your MTPLM which is the max a vehicle can pull. 4x4s or pick-ups would be better tow vehicles.

The example is a Range Rover Disco, has 1500kg MORE towing capability than that BMW....

looking at these, the second one has had the air suspension changed for Coils. due to the standards being a nightmare to fail
