Long story short, lost the back end on a greasy road and went head on into the crash barrier after doing a 360. Car is being assesed on Monday and im not holding out much hope for insurance fixing it. I'd quite like to buy it back and fix it as id literally just got it to where I wanted after 2 and a bit years and it seems a shame to scrap. Not sure how severe the damage to the front end is but I managed to start the car and drive it off the road. Apart from the extensive panel damage Ive got a burst radiator and the power steering is gone. Crossmember looked untouched but again im not a mechanic so could be more severe. 2 nearside wheels both cracked im guessing when it hit the kerb but I didnt notice any suspension damage. Anyone done similar or repaired similar? Cheers in advance.

 

gonna be a big repair job by the look so fit, whole front end, including jigging i expect, engine may well have some hidden damage if its done enough to push the rad back etc etc.

prob can be repaired but not sure i'd want to tbh, buy it back as a breaker and get a new one would be my advice

 

As above because it is nearly always worse than it looks.

 

I wouldn't even try to repair it, buy it back and break it for spares

It would cost £4k+ to sort out

Cheers for the advice so far. Dont have the know how or space to break it myself and it seems like it could drag on for months trying to shift it all. I guessed it would be around 5k to fix up so ideally if its fixable to the condition it was in I'd like to go for that. It took me ages to find a forged hawk when I was buying the car and dont fancy the hastle of going through it all again. Am I mad to even consider putting it right?

 

I had a Fabia VRS which had what I thought was minor front near side damage which cost just short of £3k to repair so that looks mega money to me unless you are very handy with a spanner!

 

Other option is to buy and shell, and reshell the car, see shell's going for few hundred.

 

Sorry for your loss Gerard...so long as your ok thats the main thing. Just break it for spares as it will be a big job to align and repair.

 

Feel for you mate, you're very unlikely to recoup the extra value of a forged build in an insurance settlement.

If you buy and fix, it would it not be classed as a Cat C?
Certainly make it a lot harder to shift when you're after your next car.

 

I said when I bought it that it was a keeper so not fussed about resale value. I just want it to drive and look right. As everyone has said it will be a write off but if they pay out and sell the car back then I'd like to put it right assuming its not as bad as it looks but thats after a propper inspection and finding out just how much damage there actually is. Just going to have to play it by ear at this point.

 

id buy it back buy another good condition one and swap everything good over then break the rest not worth fixing that I'm afraid.
