Default The VIN is not registered with the VRM supplied

Hi all,

I wondered if you could help.

I looked at a 2004 Impreza WRX today and really like it, I said that I definitely want it but didn't hand over any money at the time.

I am just performing a check on the HPICHECK website and it states "The VIN is not registered with the VRM supplied" the VIN is JF1GDAKD35G049971. I wondered if somebody could help decipher this as I am clueless.

Thanks
Jason

Could be a recent registration plate number change. Did you see the v5?

AFAIK it means the VIN info does not match the Registration number (Vehicle Registration Mark) supplied.

The VIN is good for a UK MY05 Obsidian black WRX.

False plates ??? dunno

try cross checking the info here

I saw the V5 and the reg matched by I didn't check the vin number. I can request they send me a picture of it.

The car drive well and seemed in sound condition, this is my only concern. Mot history all seems to add up and it has receipts for work done over the past couple of years.

Is a 54 reg in black. So would this be a MY04? Sorry for my ignorance I am new to the world of Subaru.

The info looks fine according to that link with the reg number.

Thank you for your help.

Has a personal plate been removed prior to sale, that wouldn't necessarily have caught up with HPI?

VIN puts car as manufactured in 08/04 so 54 plate fits.

Just checked the MY cutoffs it's actually an MY05 which is reflected in the 10th character of the VIN as well ( i'm slipping).

Thanks for your help. The HPI check says that no other plates have been recorded. Everything else seems to check out fine. I will request that they get me pics of the V5 info tomorrow. If the VIN is not recognised is this a big problem? I have emailed IM and the Subaru dealers that have worked on it to see if they can shed any light on the discrepancy.

I can ask re private plates tomorrow also.

I appreciate the help, I have never performed an HPI check before, I used to have a friend in car sales that did it for me!

Leave it mate. It's dodgy, false plates or some altering of the identity of the vehicle has taken place. If it does turn out be stolen we will seize it from you and return it to it's rightful owner whomever that may be, you will have no recourse at all unfortunately.

It is not unknown for the PNC to be incorrectly updated or not updated at all with a LOS marker, it's a computer system fed information by people, mistakes can be made.

The police would seize it and restore it to the original owner, unfortunately i've seen it on a few occasions, and the poor sod who bought it in good faith is left with very very little they can do

Thanks for the advice. I am ready to leave it if I can't resolve it, I'd rather wait and get something that I can keep!

Just an update, a mate did an HPI check on his phone for me when I explained what happened and the last few digits returned do match. I'm thinking that it is fine but there has been a clerical area transferring the full VIN. What do you think?

OK, I have a couple of updates.

Firstly don't use hpicheck.com lol. This morning the report said "VRM not recorded by insurers as a 'total loss'. Now it states "VRM recorded by insurers as a 'total loss" and "D - Vehicle damaged but repairable - the insurer decided not to repair".

I tried another HPI check with the same result "Total Insurance Loss (Write-off)
Recorded as a Category D insurance write-off on 21 Jan 2012".

Subaru head office sent me this..."Subaru Impreza VIN JF1GDAKD35G049971was not imported by Subaru UK Ltd it was originally sold by Subaru's representative in Malta and as such we have no record of applied registration numbers."

And finally the Subaru dealers they told me that had worked on the car previously told me that they didn't have any concerns with the car, the VIN they have registered is JF1GDAKD35GZ049971.
The dealership told me that they did a full check and MOT in August 2013 and all was fine, they have sold it a couple of times and they have serviced it and done some minor work (Turbo gasket, air valve, radiator, engine temp sensor) all in 2013/14.

As you have quite rightly pointed out it doesn't look right, unfortunately I'm going to have to keep looking! I was set on this one to.

Definitely isn't a Z on the vin in the picture. All sounds very odd to me, but don't worry, there are plenty out there, and i am sure you will find one that is far better!
