Default How noisy is a type r gear box

My dccd gearbox in my v4 type r whines through all the gears,it drives fine and is smooth in and out of all gears with no crunches or knocks.
New clutch and flywheel and gear oil and is still the same whine
Now I've had two Subaru specialists drive the car one said its fine and is common for this box to whine, second says it sounds noisy to him!
So my question is does the type r gearbox have a raw whine?
Thanks

Should not be noisy at all as ice as said, sounds like you have a gearbox issue

Is the OP car stripped?

You would actually be amazed at the amount of noise gearboxes etc make.

Mine is very noisy and whiny. Was silent when the interior was in. With nour interior it is noisy as hell

Ok cheers fellas,I suppose the closest I could describe the noise is similar to the wrc whine on the rally cars,I was assured it's fine when I bought the car and had it checked over by a well known Subaru specialist, got paranoid when told it sounds noisy the other day as its going for a map on Monday with duncan

Mine makes the odd whir when it is in the locked position.Nothing serious though. Trying to manouvure in low speed though when it is locked sounds nasty.

It isn't stripped out,has all of its interior but not much sound deadening anywhere I guess as it quite noisy as in road noise and bumps etc
I rarely use the dccd it's always in the fully open position or sometimes roll it forward a notch in the wet but never any further

I suppose it's a good excuse to look into a six speed then.i assumed with it being the type r it was the nature of the beast to be abit noisier/stiffer as opposed to the uk 2000 I had previously and learned to live with it as it isn't the typical about to **** itself whine

As said above the gearbox shouldn't be noisy at all, you can get some diff clunks at low speed if it's locked but that should be it. I'd start by changing the oil.

Just had new clutch with rcm lightweight flywheel and gear oil changed in the last few days,I do get the usual clunks at low speed reversing occasionally people speak of
I will find out what gear oil was used and maybe try another
