Default Exhaust tone

I have a 2005 blob eye sti with a prodrive down pipe with a 2.5" cat back afterburner vortex.
Where I live are quite a few subaru's around and when they drive past, they all seem to have the proper deep subaru rumble.
Mine whilst it sounds like a subaru on idle, sounds much higher pitched when I'm driving around, it doesn't seem to have the proper deep rumble.
Is that due to the exhaust I have? Or something else like I should have a decat?
Or equally is it all in my head?

Get someone else to drive by you in your car you'll probably be pleasantly surprised it will sound different in the car and out

What he said

I always thought mine sounded a bit 'limp' but I followed my pal in it the other day and it was just right from outside car under load

Another idea is open passengers side rear window all the way down, and then drive.

Never new how deep mine was until i heard my mot driver take it down the road.

Opened the rear windows and surprising just from that how much better the car sounds to me! no need to buy a new exhaust then!

I do that with front window, wife never understands why I do it. Incredible the vast difference from front to rear windows to hear the tone of the exhaust though.

I will get a friend to drive at some point so I can hear from the outside!
