Default Engine gone :( some news finally!

Well eventful day....

Went on the dyno and made 308bhp/264ftlb so compared to when it was mapped last year it's down on power, was 321/310.
Anyway apart from down on power all else was ok.....until I got near home.....

Was a couple of mins from getting on the A1 near Worksop when I heard a faint tinny rattley noise, thought it was the intercooler tray knocking so stopped and had a look but everything seemed ok.
Carried on and near Newark it started getting more persistent and louder so I gingerly carried onto Grantham and stopped at the services where it now sounds like a bag of spanners plus engine cutting out when dipping clutch in to stop.
Got it recovered to the local subaru guru and there it sits now, he's going to compression test it but he thinks it sounds more top end.

So now got to decide what to do:
• repair whatever's gone wrong
• rebuild complete engine
• as above but forged
• 2nd hand engine
• skyline has always been a dream.....

Not really sure what to do, think Iv only done about 600 miles since I got it

I feel your pain.. my head gaskets went recently. I'd not had the car for a huge amount of time either.

I've just decided to take the engine out and rebuild it to a decent spec with some choice components.

Waiting on a few more bits from RCM as we speak.

Cars done 85k miles iirc.
I couldn't believe how quickly it escalated from a hardly noticeable ting to full on knock, 25miles. In retrospect I should have got it recovered when I first stopped to check things but it honestly sounded like a heat shield or something.
Il have to wait till it's compression checked and stripped before deciding what to do but it's in too good a condition to break.

It's so annoying as everything was just starting to come together with it!
Hopefully it's something inexpensive (yeah right!), timing tensioner had been suggested by a couple of people, if that's the case (probably not) is it a case of new tensioner check timing and away it goes?

Iv had mine 3 months so at least you beat me!

The GTR is not a permanent 4wd car. In the wet it's RWD and will let go big time if not careful. Again dependant on tyres, I have 17/45/285 toyo R888's on mine so pretty cr8p in the wet but sticks like **** to a shovel in the dry with the altessa.

Finally got some news, not sure if it's good or bad yet though!

Compression test came back at 130 and 135 driver side and 90 95 passenger side.
So what's possible causes?
Car lost no power and didn't overheat or smoke, however when I checked under bonnet as previously mentioned the engine felt red hot.
Is it possible head/cam damage and what should ideal compression be?

Thanks
