CASTLE COMBE TODAY!!!!
#1
First of all, many thanks to all those that attended the Rally Supercar event at Castle Combe today. The turnout was amazing, and you did the club proud. I counted nearly 100 Scoobs.
Some other awesome machinery there, too many to mention really.
Anyway, as some of you will know 'CK 1' suffered an 'injury' today. It looks a lot worse than it is (I hope!) but both my passenger and I are fine.
It was a simple case of driving too fast on a circuit I didn't really know, nobody to blame but myself.
I was really enjoying some b-i-g sideways antics at a couple of the more popular bends, and lost it on one round the back of the track where I simply entered too quickly. It's a very fast and deceiving circuit. I'm hopeful that 'CK 1' won't be out of action for too long though.
Thanks to everyone that has called and shown concern, it really is appreciated.
Stef.

Stef,
What a great display you put on today.
I was at Quarry corner when u came through, back out, all four wheels drifting. Had to put me cheese an' pickle sarnie down and shout WOOOOAAAARRRGHHH!!!! much to the amusement of the spectators around me.
Made the EVOS look positively boring.
Was that white sierra cossie diesel powered (fumes, cough, slutter)??
The next best moment was the rear tyre and wing exploding on the 6R4, are they made of expanded polystyrene??
Brilliant day, great weather, scoobs went and sounded awesome.
SIDC membership going off tomorrow.

A really good day except for that bloody R64 shreading its tyre, I got back to my car a while later to find it had a couple of small dents from the flying debris!! B*****KS,B*****KS,B*****KS

Indeed an excellent day. hope CK1 is better soon! Not to put a dampner on things though. Yet again was I appalled by the total lack of marshalling. I regularly attend castle coombe and love the circuit (13 years now). I have seen some major offs at quarry. Not a marshall or yellow flag to be seen. Also I find it amazing that they have the rescue truck on track towing cars whilst cars are at full speed and no yellow flags!
Stef I hope that you could perhaps whisper in someones ear about this because the standard at this particular circuit for these events is gradually getting worse. I love this track for its location and viewing with the thrills and spills of camp and quarry corners.

As long as the rear chassis member is fine, it looked pretty superficial to me ! just body panels and some labour at least you walked away and could still joke about it !!
Great day, even though i turned up well late LOL
Good to see some old faces, and put new faces to new names

Stef M8. Very pleased you're both okay.
We all love to read about your antics, see the vids an' all, but please do us all a favour.
Since it's unlikely that you're going to slow down, please fit a FULL roll-cage in CK1, six-point harnesses to both front seats, and don't carry rear passengers.
"I was... driving too fast on a circuit I didn't really know." Sounds just like The Ring to me, where speeds are usually into three figures and the run-off is measured in inches.
Take care.
Richard.

Thanks peeps.
ad.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I have to say that Quarry is one of the most fun bends I've ever driven round!
Arron.
Absolutely! No matter how many different variations there are, that's the one for a Scoob. If only I'd remembered that yesterday...
Scoobabe.
Congratulations!
Fizz.
I couldn't agree more. When I went off there was not a marshall or yellow flag to be seen! OK, so luckily my car was driveable and I put it into a safe place, but that's no excuse for having nobody there to at least help out.
Hoppy.
As soon as the holiday is over I will be busy on the phone, don't worry.
There are a number of options, I don't know whether a full cage is one as I use my car for work. I think it will be more a case of me adjusting my driving style more than anything else. I think slicks wherever possible would be a good idea, as I have no choice but to be smooth on them.
I've realised that however spectacular and however much fun slidng the car is, I simply don't have the ability to get myself out of all the situations that may arise as a result of driving like that. There are simply too many variants I don't know enough about, tyre limits and weight-transfer for example.
Lessons are there to be learned from, so I will.

Will someone please le me know when this sort of day is on again as I`ve just looked at the images and it would have been good to see and hear some of the old great GroupB cars again.Did they take them around the track?????????

Someone (on another list) said that you'd had a talking to / finger wagging from some of the track officials - any truth ?
If so, what were their problems ?
From where I was standing, you were doing great and what happened could have happened to anyone (including me).
One regret was that I wasn't on any of the sessions you were - I'd have liked to have seen you a bit more close up.
Cheers,
Numptie

Yes, one of the instructors came over after the first session and grabbed me. Gave me a right rollocking and threatened to get me banned!!!! It actually got a bit heated, as I don't appreciate being held on the arm like a naughty school boy!
Anyway, I had no idea what he was on about, so after we'd both cooled down I went to speak to him.
In the session in question he was a passenger with someone. I was following a purple Sunny GTi-R and the white Cossie. The Sunny driver was a nobber, and simply wouldn't let either of us past.
I finally managed to get past the Cossie on the exit from Quarry, and was going to pass the Sunny but he wouldn't have it. He ended up overshooting the chicane and then cut back in front of me. I held back and catapulted past him after the next bend. The Cossie tried to follow but was violoently cut-up by the Sunny and forced onto the grass! One of the worse pieces of driving I've ever seen on a track. I obviously didn't see it at the time, but thanks to my mirrorcam it's all on video.
Anyway, the instructor somehow thought that it was me that had forced the Cossie off.
Still, he was fine in the end when he realised it wasn't me.
I'll see if I can post a couple of clips up.

Hi Stef
Your right he was a right w***ker in the Nissan. On the first session he said he'd been here before, so I presumed he'd be quick around it and let him go by. Well after the first lap he was just holding me up and wouldn't let me by. I flashed him several times on the straight but didn't have enough ***** to take the risk of braking later and cutting in front so I just hoped he'd let me go by.
It was quick on the straights, but he just could not drive it what so ever and ended up on the grass three times. Basically he was all over the show.
I thought after having courtesy and letting him go by, he might return the jesture whilst hard up behind him. It's these kind of ***** that make drivers like us have to take risks to get by.
P.S. T5NYW "W4LLS", why did you give me such a ****ty look after the session I got by you?

Stef,
Great day out! Cheers for the effort you put in and I hope CK1 is back on track soon..
Standard of driving IMO was good in the SIDC sessions, only once did I get held up by somebody 'taking it easy' in the braking zones and corners, problem was they booted it out of the exits, so the queue couldn't get past , well for a while anyway
Marsalling? tell me about it. The braking cone had dissappeared at the Esses and was never replaced and I felt for the cars that ran over the debris left by the 6R4
All in all a great day out, I met old and new faces, got sunburnt and the car went faultlessly - despite a spin I wasn't proud of....
See you all at Trax
