mamba gt30 any good?
Looking at getting some more power out of my blob ppp as a few of my friends are leaving me behind. Been looking at turbo options and a few people said to get a gt3076 as its a bolt on?
Seen the mamba ones on ebay that quote up to 550bhp but do they really make that? Someone told me that engine tuner sell these mambas unbranded so they cant be that bad surely? Just seem cheap compared to SC turbos and others I've looked at so thought i'd ask.
Anyone running one?

The mamba range of turbo use genuine cores and not the cheap Chinese copies so should perform no different to any other genuine turbo, I've personally not tried one but I wouldn't hesitate should the time come.
Is 500bhp+ your target

They do different types of bolt on GT3076R all with different specs. GT3076R 3inch inlet w/.49 Hsg 60mm support 430-500hp.
GT3076R (56.5mm / Trim 90) with A/R .49 Turbine Housing support 350-420hp.
GT3076R (56.5mm / Trim 90) with A/R .64 Turbine Housing support 350-420hp.
GTX3076R (60mm / Trim 84) with A/R .49 Turbine Housing support 380-450hp.
GTX3076R (60mm / Trim 84) with A/R .64 Turbine Housing
Support 380-450hp.
So it all depends on which one he has and supporting mods.

This is what I'm hearing, that they dont make the quoted power. The aim is just for a fast road car without breaking the bank but 2 of my friends are in the high 300's/low 400s so when I saw them quoting in this range I figured it would be worth asking.
Jamie, what was he expecting to get vs what he got? think i'd be disappointed if I bought one 420 capable and it only made 350, thats my worry. I know supporting mods and mapping are needed, but the turbo is the biggest expense so i'm looking at that 1st.

There are to many variations to make a decision based on limited information, there are lots of configurations of gt3076 turbos, ranging between 350 - 600 bhp.
A smaller displacement engine will require more boost to make the figures and if the mapper feels unsure going over a certain boost level then it's not going to make the numbers.
That's just one, there are many more.
A 20g was once commonly known as the 400bhp turbo even though most never actually get there, always 370, 380,390.
Lots of things play a part in it

Isnt that a 4 door or am I missing something?
This turbo malarky is getting confusing, some say these make the power and some dont.
If its not the turbo thats the problem on Jamies car what is it? I dont want to buy a 380-420 turbo and it only make 350

its a blobeye sti thats totally standard at the moment. I have 2 mates running in a similar power bracket so I know whats required in terms of supporting mods, exhaust etc but one of them is on a 20g, the other an sc42 so theres obviously quite a price swing when it comes to the turbo side of things and I'm just looking at what represents best value for money.

My sc38 has been mapped currently to 395bhp 352 torque, all with supporting mods, it did initially make 410bhp but was too lean, so had to make it safe.
I now have 750cc injectors ready to go on, to hopefully achieve past 400bhp.
All stock internals on a blobeye 53 plate with 55k

A quick comment on turbo choice. We supply turbos from Turbo Technics, Turbo Dynamics and Scoobyclinic. We also get them from Owen, RCM and direct from the people who supply Mamba. We aren't wedded to anybody. We like to choose the one that most fits the criteria, but often have to wait as there is no stock or choose another unit. If we find a turbo that does the job for less cash, we'll offer it as an alternative. We'll also offer the best there is when we have the opportunity to spec the car to a target regardless of cost.
At the end of the day, it's our customer's choice.

£950 for an unbranded mamba from ET is what a buyer told me via pm, and they were'nt sure if there was any difference between an off the shelf one or wether it was better spec'd?? 50% mark up is a LOT if its the same.
I've decided to take a couple of peoples advice and save for something reputable, the cars stayed standard 12 years, it can wait a bit longer.

We don't buy turbos from Ebay on the basis that you don't get the back up, and bear in mind that DUTY is payable on the transaction, so they aren't as cheap as all that. They use top quality cores, so are not to be confused with other alternatives. We buy direct from the manufacturer and they come in packages that suit us. A Precision costs £1794 plus carriage, happy to supply those. We've been regularly hitting 500 bhp from those when they are what the customer wants and can afford.
