Hi All,

Just goes to prove that its worth shopping around for a decent dealer.

S&S in Ayr had submitted a claim to have my clutch replaced under warranty, due to the infamous clutch judder (even though I wasn't able to replicate it when I took it in to them ...). IM have now come back and approved the replacement under warranty

This was after my local dealer, who supplied the vehicle, had stated 'they all do that, nothing can be done about it'.

So, even though its 1.5 hours away, I will be having all my servicing done at S&S from now on.

And they've even offered me a courtesy car overnight so that I can keep the boss happy and get in the majority of a full day at work.

Andrew,
Great result......If it is the same dealer that is local to us both, I understand totally why you want your servicing done elswewhere. I too am trying to avoid servicing it there - find them quite hostile and unhelpful...

Angry

They have never made me happy when I see their mechanics jumping into my perfectly clean car in their greasy overalls without putting plastic seat covers in first either ...

Oh well, all the more business for S&S.

Great news!

I now use T&C in Perth after a similar problem.

Question

Hmmmmmm

Andrew

Exactly how bad was your clutch judder prior to the fix?

My MY00 does it too, though without actually trying someone elses car, I don't know whether mine is minor or serious.

Rich,

Hard question to answer.

The car is nearly two years old and has done 18K miles. I bought it in January, and have put the last 3K miles on it.

The judder was much worse in Winter, and is usually worse if it is cold and / or wet.

Sometimes there will be no judder at all. At other times I will shake rattle and roll my way out of the car park at work, looking like the worlds worst learner driver

My main concern was that winter is another six months (and 6K miles away), and that if I left it until then, when I could easily demonstrate the effect on a cold morning, I might be fobbed off due to the age of the car and the number of miles.

I've also noticed that it will sometimes catch in first gear even once the car is warm, and this was causing concerns as well.

I have always treated the car well, no full rev starts etc, so was fairly certain that my claim should be sucessful.

All I can suggest is that you talk to your dealer.

Andrew,

Thanks.
Mine isn't too bad. It only occurs when car is cold in cold/wet weather.

It usually corrects itself after a few gear changes, so frankly I can live with it.

My car is 1 year old. I think I'll leave it until the winter. If it gets worse, then I'll complain again.

Incidentally, was yours a direct replacement or did they upgrade it to include the P1 housing?

Rich

Rich,

Not sure yet, and I forgot to ask

It's going in to have the work done next Monday, I'll ask when I drop it off.

Wink

I've noticed the "upgrade to P1 housing" bit to cure the clutch judder.

Anyone know what the cure is if the clutch on your P1 judders??

Cheers

Hi,

The car goes in on Monday to have the clutch replaced under warranty.

It took IM about a week to come back with an OK to do the work.

Will let you all know how things go after Monday.

Red face

Well guys this is going to be interesting. I'm making the journey from the West of Scotland to the dealer in the Edinburgh area that I believe you may be referring to.

I bought the car from them 6 months ago & am taking it back there for a service. I have also asked them to investigate the clutch judder & possible slipping in second gear.

We'll see what happens! It's going in at the beginning of June.

Incidentally, as I said on another "clutch judder" thread a couple of days ago, one of my colleagues recently had his clutch replaced by S&S under warranty. He was told that it is a known problem and Subaru normally sanction replacement for this problem.
