Any tips?
Hi guys, just joined up and was wondering if you have any tips or things 2 look out for. We are selling our Audi A4 DTM and looking 2 get an STI maybe the 330s around 2008 - 2010 hatchback but would appreciate some advice on specs and things 2 look out for on the test drive.
Thanks in advance, Karl.

Welcome to the forum!
I have no personal experience with the 2.5 engine, but I have read even the WRX STi saloons (latest shape) continue to have problems. By all accounts, Subaru generally doesn't seem to want to know. If the car is still under warranty, Subaru will rebuild the engine, but will use the same OE parts, so its the same problematic engine, just a new one, which could go pop in 20-30k miles. Many hatch owners get a forged build, which costs several thousand pounds. Apparently, a forged 2.5 engine makes a very good, drivable road car due to its torque, but even some forged builds can still have problems and a finite life.
If you're prepared to buy an older Impreza, Bugeyes (01-02) and Blobeyes (03-05) have the more reliable 2.0 engines. If you're only interested in buying a hatch, you have three options: buy one with a standard engine but put aside approximately £4k for a potential rebuild; buy one that has already been forged, but be sure to check paperwork for the build, and also check on here that the person/garage that did the build is reputable; or buy a JDM hatch (JDM = Japanese Domestic Market, ie. an import). These retain the stronger 2.0 engine. However, they are less common and usually command a premium over UK hatches.

A very interesting read with regards to the 2.5 engine. It's a US site but the technical details remain the same.
