A UK car has two cats in the downpipe section and a resonator in the main centre pipe.

By changing the later (item 25) for a straight thro pipe it will return a lot of the burble.

The 2nd cat (item 1)is usually replaced with a straight through equivalent with PPP

Decent youtube clip here of prodrive box with straight through centre

There is another video somewhere on youtube showing the oe centre resonater being cut out and replaced with straight section which is the cheapest option

No problem and mot is posible a problem when cold ive read and i would like to think removing 25 shouldnt need a remap but i could be wrong i was going to do the downpipe and centre decat but then got quoted 350 to remap it so the cost doubled

My old hatch had a prodrive cat back exhaust. The centre section has no silencer but it does not interfere with any cats on the car. It was lovely. Not loud but better than stock by far. Note the back boxes by themselves won't mate to the Subaru factory mid pipe. You need both the back box and mid pipes. I've got a photo bucket video. Anyone know how to upload it? It keeps appearing as an image

If you buy a cat back exhaust technically you're buying the back boxes and the mid pipe.

If you want more noise from the exhaust that's already fitted to your car, get an exhaust centre to cut the silencer from the mid pipe already fitted to the car and weld a piece of pipe into its place

In the hatch. The standard downpipe is two piece containing two cats, then the centre section then the backbox

Any hatch with prodrive ecu upgrade, inc 330s will have a two piece down pipe with only 1 cat in the downpipe (the 5 bolt flange) piece you refer to then a decat pipe (the 2ft piece) you refer to.

Replacing either of these on a std car probably needs a remap as itll throw an engine light on.

Scorpion (who make the prodrive backboxes) will sell you a stainless centre section that will mate to your existing prodrive backbox for approx £225 but as you can see it also has a centre resonater (its also two piece whereas subaru is all one)
http://www.street-race-exhausts.co.uk/scorpion-exhausts-subaru--impreza-25-wrx-sti-08-14half-system-2101-p.asp

On ebay, there are delivery mileage OE centre sections for 70, they are brand new...i know as i bought one. They are around 300 from subaru in comparison

So you could buy that then get resonater cut out for approx £40, and there you have a brand new straight through centre section for not alot of outlay

As stated, other manufacturer centres (h&s, milltek, cobra etc) will not mate to the prodrive backbox so dont even consider it unless buying same brand backbox also

Isn't the standard centre mild steel? So you'd be better upgrading to a stainless centre - fit and forget.

yep except it would be a bit pricer as would have to be custom as nobody makes a straight through s/s centre section of the shelf for a hatch that hooks up to the std or prodrive backbox
