Cool FMIC for MY00 GC8

I currently have an aging Autobahn 88 FMIC that is probably on its last legs, it has served me well so far but now I am running a 2015 Spec C bottom end with STi6 heads and SC42 it doesn't seem man enough for the job anymore.

Has anyone actually found a decent FMIC for a classic? that

A) doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
B) is a decent fit.
C) reliable
D) doesn't blow apart at the joints.

I was recommended a Mishimoto but they don't do them for the GC8 unless you get a universal one.

Or failing an FMIC, a TMIC that will take 400+ps and is relatively easy to fit in a classic.

HDI INTERCOOLER KIT FOR SUBARU

HDI-GT2 intercooler kit for Subaru GC8

If it was me, I'd get this (if I didn't already have my Hyperflow Monster job lol).

It's Hybrid's latest 'street' FMIC, the "HDI GT2".

I don't know who the UK importer is though (if any?!). Obviously, back in the day, Harvey (RIP) used to sell Hybrid gear. After his passing I know that AS Performance took on some (all?) of Harvey's existing stock, so they might be a good port of call...

I've heard Japspeed are good up to 600 BHP, and considering it's not exactly complex, high tolerance, or complicated parts, I wouldnt be shedding out thousands on a FMIC. Just my two cents

Speak with Andy Hughes, I dont think he posts on here but you can find him on fb or the 22b forum. He makes custom cores for both classic and newage and they receive very good comments from reputable mappers.

As you already have the pipework in place it would be a simple swap and save you a lump of cash to boot. He is currently having mine made as we speak.

Cheers
Dubzy

ps i have a newage Japspeed core as new condition for sale and i will also have a Hdi core available once my new core is fitted if anybody is interested.

Good call, Dubz.

Makes perfect sense to get a new but custom core made to the pattern of his A88. That way, if space allows, it can be made deeper too (extra surface area). Piece of **** to remove old/refit new (because pipework can stay in place).

In my experience with japspeed/2fast2cool/ebay intercooler kits is that the core itself isn't too bad but the pipework is dog ****, poor quality and poorly fitting. One kit we bought actually had a split along one of the pipes and all three kits I've been involved with fitting have needed some kind of modifying to fit nicely.

...Just remembered: IIRC, Aztec Performance used to stock Hybrid IC's. Don't know if they still do, though...?
