Buying a Subaru - advice needed
Hi all,
Recently i have been looking at purchasing a subaru. So far the mods that have caught my attention are the legacy spec b wr models and in general, wrx sti's.
I recently found a legacy gtb wr for sale and I was hoping to get some advice.
The Legacy: http://www.trademe.co.nz/1164463817
Now I love the look of this car - as far as I can tell from what little research I have done they are solid machines. This is the absolute top end of my budget so any recommendations are of no use if they top roughly 10k (NZD) (11K max). I was wondering what fuel economy and insurance is like on these. Some people say the fuel economy is god awful while some state this is not the case. Although I realise it is somewhat subjective I was hoping to get a rough figure.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Cheers

I have a WR Ltd Leggy.
To answer your initial question - they are pretty solid but like any car they can have issues depending on use or abuse. Mine is an import and is the cleanest and as been extremely well looked after.
They have 316 mm brakes that are excellent, a great titanium twinscroll turbo and interior. They are bigger and heavier than an Impreza, so not as agile but the standard Bilsteins do a great job.
On a recent long run playing the ECO light challenge (an ECO Mode button that can be used for twin mapping) I managed 361 miles before the fuel light illuminated. I had it mapped recently with just a Cosworth panel filter and achieved 319/327
Have a look on the UKLegacy website for a better feel of what these cars are about.

Thanks for the quick reply, i live in new zealand so im not sure how similar the pricing would be but how are the maintenance costs?
I asked the seller and he said he gets 650k kilometers (which i worked out to be around 26 mpg). He lives in a suburban area so im assuming this is on town streets, not open roads. Is this plausible?
A little more informatiom on the eco/twin mapping would also be appreciated as ive never heard of it before.
Many thanks!
