Default Difference between v4 and v3 sti? Quickest way to check engine type/number?

Slow day at work so i googled my vin number. Turns out that my car is a V3 STI, not a V4. However i did have an engine swap a few years ago (when i knew nothing about scoobs). How do i go about finding out what type this is, EJ20 or EJ207 (is the 207 much different to the 20?).

Also does this mean there are any inherent differences i have been thinking its a v4 all along!

V3 to V4 is quite clear because they had different dashboards. Mechanically there is hardly any difference.

Ash,

Two pages to look at.

But the main difference is the dash. The RA's as an example.

Ash,

Scroll through this informative thread from Type RA (again) and it should help.
