Default Must return to the fold !

Hi all,

Time to return to the fold I think!

Considering buying a hatch for a change, and yes I know about the dreaded plague, but a built one, how bad can this be?

What are your exeeriences of a built 2.5 running circa 450+? Do they handle well, or are they similar to any other Subaru, is it about what modifications you put into it, or is it a bad chassis?

Seems you can get one for £10k plus, £12.5k gets you a decent built with good modifications?

On the hunt.....

Rob

Wouldn't I be better with a built 2.5 for torque, seems they are good to 450/450 without much work, forged pistons and rods, and 500/500 with studs and head work?

Don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with semi 2.0, I've always had good results, but nothing over 430/400.

The dilemma I have is I've a BMW I use for work, and to be honest it bores the living crap out of me, therefore the thought of having similar power than I've had in a Subaru in the BMW would please me, make it more drive able, but I'm not interested in a M5 or M3 for that matter, so I figure a 1 series for work, and a Hatch for a "nice car" but also with some track focus additions inc powa!

I've had quite a few Subarus in my time, and I think the Classic is a great base model for a track car, but it's getting very old now, in fact the early blob is now 14 years old

450 is a safe power on a forged I'd say, even 500 would be just about ok but nothing more than that for reliability

For a road car a 2.5 with 450/450 makes for a great car and has a very usable powerband and would double up nicely for track days but would advise an oil cooler. Reason being the 2.5 runs hotter than a 2 litre engine and would hit decent temps are a few decent pulls on WOT
