Default ABS sensor ????

classic subaru rb5 /abs light flickering and pedeal judder at low spped (aprox 15 mph slowing down ) checked the flashes and showing front left abs sensor. takes it out and cleans it, still the same so oredered one off ebay and it looks different. they have sent a short probe sensor where as the one i removed is long probe !

company i ordered from are asking for a part number for the sensor i require but on looking so have found too many variations of part numbers .
the sensor i have recieved looks like a 2002 onwards short probe

any ideas chaps ???

Make sure the tone ring is clean and does the light go off when you turn the ignition on before moving.

Does it go off until you move or go off while stationary and stay off until you move.

its on sometimes when i get in and start up then goes off when i push the pedal but whilst driving even with the light off the pedal still judders at low speed . then after 20 mins or so of driving the light comes on ! ive took the sensor off and pedal now ok so either the sensor or the ring .

The abs system does a self test when you turn the ignition on if everything is ok the light goes off. Then when you start traveling the system monitors road speed etc and then if something is incorrect it activates the light again. You have a nsf fault so you need to check the tone ring and sensor. You could attach the sensor and leave it dangling to test the electrical end of things and the new sensor if the plugs are the same. If everything is ok there I'm afraid you may have a modulator fault. Subaru early abs systems where notoriously rubbish.

The new sensor will plug in and bolt up but it's the wrong length as they have sent a blob eye sensor which is shorter in length . The old sensor which I removed is longer . Was after a part number but google throws up allsorts, lol !!

Well if you've had both sensors plugged in and cleared the codes each time it must be your modulator/abs pump or a wiring fault.

As I said before just plug it in don't fit it then clear the code and see does it return. That would tell you is it your sensor or not.

Either disconnect the battery or join the connectors two green and two black under the steering cowl. Two are test connectors and two are to clear the codes iirc the two green ones are the test connectors.

Just do the abs delete and get rid of it, its sh*t anyway and you wont have any more issues with it.

hi there read your help post regarding abs fault after reading a workshop manual regarding obtaining abs fault codes regarding connecting to green and black connectors to obtain and clear fault codes these are only for the engine ecu as I'm led to believe, as I'm unable to find any other test connectors for fault finding on the abs system what would you suggest, mine is a classic v3 jap import never had any problems with abs until it went in for welding on both sills, checked wiring with no success on any fault, would they have blown the abscm
