Brakes might be a better option

DBA are pretty good. Using them on my '16 STi and very happy with them.

Be wary of drilled discs. They can ha e a tendancy to crack. The drilling process can weaken the disc. As with grooves, only for looks on a road car.

HI
Yes drilled discs are weaker than grooved only and not really suitable for long life , drilling them creates a weak spot and is then prone to cracking with hard use.

We can offer a two different grooved types of discs , and with normal day to day driving with some spirited driving now and again our kevlar pads are suitable , they work from cold , are quiet in use , and easy on discs , they would not be suitable for hard drivers or track days , we have other pads available for harder drivers.

Our 6 groove discs and kevlar pad package
http://www.godspeedbrakes.co.uk/pack...port-pads.html

And our G hook grooved discs and kevlar pads
http://www.godspeedbrakes.co.uk/pack...ar-pads-.html?

All our discs come with a 12 month guarantee against warping even if you do track days , we use good quality blanks not just chinese cheap discs , so our prices will not be the cheapest , but you can be assured they will be amongst the best out there

Cheers Ian

Brakes. Not breaks.....!!!!!!

Slots or grooves are designed to prevent gas build up between pad and disc. Heat produced by heavy constant braking can produce gas which would form a barrier between pad and disc and reduce friction. The grooves would allow gas to escape.
On a road car, unless you are driving to extremes which would be illegal ( or plain stupid), slotted discs are really only for looks. Given the improvement in pad technology, you could also argue whether they are relevant on the track these days too.
A good set of pads and plain discs are easily good enough on public roads if you are on a budget. If you care about looks (or vain like me and have tbe cash to splash, then slots etc are the way to go.

Drilled discs will help them break better.

Grooved won't help them break better.

Drilled will probably break as they'll crack eventually lol

Cross dilling brakes is purely for weight reduction - not braking efficiency. The only reliable cross drilled discs are those which are cast that way and not drilled later on as Ian points out above.

I've recently had to have new front pads fitted to my daily drive (hawk WRX). So after performing various searches on scoobynet looking for suggested pads, I took a risk and opted for the EBC Bluestuff NDX pads, and I am very satisfied so far. I am running them on the front with OEM plain discs and the improvement they have made is night and day. The bite from cold is brilliant; they are quiet too and I haven't suffered from any brake judder (which seemed to be an issue for some, but they were using the pads on trackdays) - I can't comment on the dust as they are still relatively new and in the process of still bedding in. But at the risk of being shot down, I highly recommend these as a fast road pad.

I changed the brakes on my classic recently with Godspeed G Hook discs and their Kevlar pads. The braking performance is much better with the Godspeed setup. Whether that's due to the Godspeed parts being of good quality, or the parts I removed being pants thought I'm not sure.
I wasn't initially keen on the G Hooks either, I did order the grooved but received the G Hooks. They eventually grew on me though and I don't mind them so much now. I'd probably go for grooved when they need replacing though.

I doubt there is any difference between grooves and J hooks. My DBA discs have small arcs and as I mentioned earlier, they are just there to prevent gas build up. The different designs all do the same thing.

Also worth considering braided hoses and decent brake fluid too. No point upgrading part of the system when others ca be a weak link. Heat is the biggest issue with brakes. Decent fluid is a must IMHO.

I've had Brembo drilled discs and PFC Z rated pads front and rear on my car for the last 4 years with absolutely zero cracking evident, good set up as well in my opinion.
