Default 2000 Subaru Legacy Outback Station Wagon - plastic front heat shield

Hi - I pulled into work today and the front heat shield is dragging on the ground. I drive approximately 100 miles a day for work in my trusty workhorse - not to mention all the running around I do at home with the kids (busy mom syndrome) I do keep it well maintained as far as oil changes, etc. Then there's this. Can i safely get around with it until I get a day off to take it to the mechanic? I have to drive in all sorts of weather and terrain for work. Thank you for any information you could provide.

If you mean the plastic undertray, it is attached by plastic pop in screws, clips and some bolts. It is easy and cheap to reattach, but if you leave it dangling, it will tear off and break. FYI, plastic isn't really used for heat shields.

As above, it's only a few minutes work to re-attach once you're under the car. There is always the risk of it catching on something as you're driving along and getting ripped off.
In terms of a short term get around then you can cable tie it in place or remove it completely. But it will take longer to get the car on a ramp then it will take to fix so you may as well fix it properly.
