Over on piston heads. It's a tidy looking 1996 turbo wagon.
Anyone fancy taking a chance on the arches?

Looks like a good, honest, original classic. If I wasn't skint and behind on my own car I'd be really tempted.

Thanks, it's very original and runs well, but could use a bit of TLC. I was commuting 70 miles a day in it, which was not ideal while I waited for a new car which is a much better daily but a bit sterile compared to the impreza, can't really justify 2 cars now.

Why is the pre 97 one more reliable out of interest? I've always run it on vpower

Not sure really. There were quite a few changes in that era; Block, heads, Pistons were slightly different; interchangeable but were different materials and/or casting methods. They also tended to run very very very rich on boost (well, mine did at least). And most Impreza engine failures are related to excessive combustion temperatures (even the latest ones) usually from running lean; Later model seemed be more reliant on the airflow sensor to manage fueling, which was prone to partial failure resulting in a weak mixture during acceleration.

I always ran mine on 95Ron and used Magnatec oil at the disgust of many on here

Although this was in the pre-ethanol days; not sure if the extra oxygenates in modern 95RON (5% ethanol) is as advisable as it not going to be compensated under high load as these engines run open loop at full throttle. That said they do run so rich it probably doesn't make a blind bit of difference!

Interesting, I had a blobeye wagon with the prodrive map and I always thought that it ran rich.

Not as rich as it runs with a dead O2 sensor

Because the PPP is a generic, warrantied map, they will always run rich for reliability (if not economy). That's why custom remaps release more power and economy; they are mapped to run leaner.
