Is it on its original windscreen?

Could have had a new screen that's not been fitted properly.

You might be able to tell by what's etched onto the screen or the make?

Is it a UK car with the radio antennae on the A pillar?

On the front bulk head panel (below and behind the clutch cylinder) there are a few holes that have grommets in them and the steering column passes through.

Check they are all in place. People do remove them for access for gauge sensor cables or additional engine wiring that needs a feed in the cabin.

KISS

It's a good idea .if it rains how does it get underneath inside the grommets. Its not wet at the top of the carpet at the foot pedals just where the heel of the foot sits. I'm drying it out with towels.

You can also remove the scuttle and do a quick visual inspection around the bottom of the screen. Can't hurt to add some extra sealant.

Yeah that doesn't sound original. Prime suspect I reckon? Cant think of many other places that amount of water can get in.

If you suspect the screen, I’d have it removed professionally and replaced with a new seal.
On removal however you may find the real culprit which on a car this age could easily be metal worm

The seal should be thin but it may have a small area that is not stopping water. As stated already a proper job is best and you can check for the angry red stuff in the corner of the screen.

Change that to silver gf8 and it sounds very familiar, I love my car to bits but its one thing after another
But its a daily driver and is 24 years old so its not unexpected.

Mines a daily driver. My hazards don't work I'm yet to change my front mains oil seal and I have the wrong tyres on my car 🙄 I bought it with 17 inch alloys with 215/40/17 and I want 215/45/17.They seem to be an odd ball size .

215/40 17 was the accepted size to stay at the correct rolling radius. Mine is on those.

Can someone remember what the OEM fitment for the MY97/98 cars was? Is it 205/55 R16, per chance?

If so, then the closest rolling circumference (i.e. to maintain the overall similar gearing) to that size, when using 17" rims, is indeed 215/45 R17.

OEM 205/55 R16 R.C. = 1986mm

215/45 R17 option R.C. = 1965mm (will give slightly better acceleration lol)
