Default HELP BLACK OIL FILTER

Hi guys,

I knew there was a problem with oil filters (although didn't know what the problem was) so ordered A genuine Subaru black oil filter from Subaru dealer, "yeah no problem" they said.
Picked it up, and it's blue! It says Subaru on it and a part. No 15208AA12A MADE IN USA.
Just got in from work and did a quick search on this, and all the posts are old.
Does that mean they are safe to use now?

If not where can I get a Black one?

Many Thanks PJ

PJ

I've been using the blue filter for the last 2 years with no problems.
You can get a pink one for about 3x the price if you're feeling flush lol

Blue are made by Honeywell, Black are made by Tokyo Roki. As ossett2k2 said, there was an issue with a batch of blue filters ages ago not upto the job.

Quite a few threads on US sites regarding the difference and construction of different Subaru filters if you google them. Blues have cardboard endcaps within the filter thus supposedly inferior to blacks. I've used both without issue, although only now exclusively fit black.

I never knew about the issue with the blue ones before but my track car was running the blue oil filter and I just recently replaced like for like, purchased from icp.

I wouldn't worry about it.
