Should I buy a 1993 wrx coupe?
I have come across this 1993 wrx coupe:
https://www.gumtree.com/p/subaru/199...ort/1292849463
I really like the 2 door look but cant afford the type r, p1 etc right now.
1) My main issue is that I dont want something that looks really old. A turbo 2000 99-00 looks fine but any older 'looking' might not be what I want. since this wrx is quite far and I've never seen in flesh, can you tell me how good they look in terms of age. Are they noticeably old i.e. can u tell the 6/7 year difference or do they look just like any 99-00 subaru cos it looks ok in the pictures? Does it look like a 99-00 wrx or in person can tell its much older? I would travel but if u say its old maybe its not worth the journey.
2) since its old and rare will it be diffucult to aquire parts or do these use the same parts as other 90s subarus in which case not a problem?
3) he mentions a disintegrated gearstick, is that something that can be resolved, small or big repair?
4) ive just looked at pics again is that a 2 door or 4 door, is this shorter in length than 2 doors?
thanks

Car looks like a wrong un
Pig in a poke is an understatement.
They didn't do this model in white, vin plate is from a silver wrx.
It has a v5/6 front bumper and rear spoiler.
No rear wiper, wrong interior and Speedo clocks.
I've only had a quick look on my phone so I'm sure there's lots more wrong with this car.
Might be worth £1200 providing it's rust free which I doubt.

Outside looks like a 1999-2000. Apart from aftermarket side skirts. Depends what your after. If it's something to thrash around in for abit. And your not going to throw money at it then go for it. Cars of that age will need a lot of work. As there an old car now. But as said if your keeping it for 12 months then passing it on go for it.

Thanks for replies guys.
Yes, It's just for a thrash around, I would keep it for at most a year. You seem to be saying it'll be ok for a year but at the same time, as it's old, it might need a lot of work, sounds like a contradiction can you clarify what u mean?
If I did keep this for a year, I wouldn't want to spend more than 1k in repairs including that gear integration issue.
Seems though everyone is saying its a bit of a mess and is not worth near 3k, might just stay clear.
thanks

A lot Impreza's that older now are rot boxes. But there will be some nice ones out there. My mate bought one and spent a large amount on the car but not on repairs.
He's only needed to replace rocker gaskets cheap fix. A few radiator pipes cheap fix, think we did radiator aswell cheap fix.
Main issues he has is a few gear box issues and rust. Which most of us have the rust issue.
If I was looking to buy it what would put me off is it looks abit boy racer ex car. And not looked after the best.
It's not worth the money. Would need to be under £2000. I wouldn't touch it myself. But I would be looking to keep long term. If your like some people who I know that buy cars for 12 months and don't look after them as is needed with any Impreza more so with older models.
Then get a rough cheap Impreza and enjoy. If it packs in or breaks sell on.
For a long term car, and something that will be a hobby. Then spend extra and buy a well looked after example.
