Default Looking for advice please

Hi all,
I am looking for a little bit of advice from people in the know!!! Ok so without boring everybody I am looking to sell my brothers 52 plate Impreza WRX. The car has been sat in my garage for the past 5 or so years as my brother was unable to use it through illness. Sadly he died a few weeks back and his wife would like to sell it on to someone who would love it as much as he did. As far as I know it was as standard but obviously it would need a bit of restoring to get it back to its former glory..... Probably a project for someone. As much as I would love to do it I have not got the knowledge or skill to even get started. I know my brother was a fan of these forums so I thought it would be a good place to start. If anybody could give me any advice on where to advertise, what sort of price to go with etc that would be great. We are being very realistic with this... It's not in fantastic condition but like I said... A project for someone... and someone to love Rons scooby as much as he did. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Pete

Sorry to hear about your brother.

For a really good condition, low milage wrx you're looking at 5-6k potentially. What is starting to kill these off is rust, so having a good condition shell will help.
Personally I'd take it along to a subaru specialist for a thorough inspection, service and MOT, so you can at least be aware of the condition it's in before you try to sell it.
Just be aware that if it's been sat a long time you may have issues with various parts (tyres, brakes etc) perishing or seizing.
Where are you based? Have you got anypictures you can share?

If it's sat for 5 years, potentially:

Seized engine
Seized brakes
All rubber components needing refresh
Fuel lines
Wheel bearings
Water pump
Fuel pump
Oil pump
Radiator
Fan
Shock Absorbers
All fluids
Battery
Tyres
Rust
And a myriad of other parts

If it's just a stock WRX then unless it's very low mileage, it's not going to be worth very much. But then again, it could have a host of expensive performance parts.

You could easily do damage trying to start it. I'd gather any paper work you can find and take a lot of photos and put it on ebay - it's worth what it's worth. But if you don't know what you are looking at, hopefully someone local and advise.

Best chance of better money in my books would be , full fluid change cambelt and mot and probably plugs too , people maybe a bit scared off with a possible non runner so not worth much till it’s a runner

I'd probably change the oil and filter and turn it over by hand first of all at a bare minimum.

Thanks everybody, some good advice. The car engine has been turned over every couple of months but that is really it. I think the tyres are pretty much perished and one of the rear brakes are stuck on. I think I will do as advised and get it to a specialist..... Actually I have just found out that someone in the know is going to call around on Saturday and have a look so I will go from there. As requested by cambs_stuart I shall stick a couple of photos on for your viewing pleasure. Thanks again fellas.

Let’s see how it has stood firstly before sealing the cars fate .
You stated it’s not in fantastic condition , is that storage related? Or was it described before been sat for 5 years ??
If it’s the latter it won’t be worth much & personally you should be looking at it as get what you can for it / don’t put anything in to it cash wise , your just throwing money .
If it’s the former & it was mint before storage but has suffered by not been stored correctly then this scenario can be a double edged sword . For sure it will need looked at by someone who knows .
I see you are in Darlington , TRW autos are beside you , ask to speak with Darren , he will give you some sound advise & im sure would call round to take a look

Do you have more details? Pictures? Would help. You have 2 options sell as is or get serviced etc.

If your not a car person I'd look to sell as is. You could end up spending aload on it. All depends on condition. If it's a low mile Impreza, in full working order and good condition before left, then spend the money.

If not sell as is.
