Default Wrx brembo upgrade

Hi guys

just a quick one regarding brembos for my wrx.... given me a right headache I've bought the calipers after purchasing new disks last month which cost 250quid .... to realise I need 326mm fronts and 316mm rears now to fit the calipers.

I then found out I need a thicker handbrake shoe for the rears, my question now is can I purchase any STI shoes and they will fit or do I need a specific handbrake shoe conversion kit?

I have the calipers discs and pads .... is there anything else I'd require? (I have 18" alloys already so no clearance issue)

thanks

why would you need a thicker handbrake shoe or is that a stupid question.....When I changed the rears on my wrx hatch and put brembos on the larger discs worked perfectly fine and it sailed through the mot as well so all worked well ??

I've been told on a wrx you need to purchase a thicker handbrake shoe otherwise your handbrake won't work when upgrading to 326mm disks

Contact godspeed, they sell specific thicker brake shoes for a wrx converted to brembo, they also do a rear disc with an insert so you can use normal wrx shoes, STI shoes will not fit.

04 is a strange year iirc there's a whole lot of combinations of hub sizes and handbrake shoe sizes. I'm pretty sure you can get the actual size disc/handbrake. If you have a wrx you'll have 170mm handbrake shoes if an STI will be 190mm now that year ish can have 100pcd and 114.3pcd. I am pretty sure you can get a 316mm disc with a 170mm handbrake shoe they are 114 and 100 pcd compatible. Give this crowd a ring and they might be able to help you otherwise you will have to resort to larger handbrake shoes.

I’ve done a brembo upgrade and never needed a thicker handbrake shoe

That's because you have a r180 diff fitted as standard.

I put Brembos on the rear of my 05 blob WRX wagon (5x100 pcd, non-widetrack) and it needed the bigger handbrake shoes, I got them from Godspeed as mentioned previously.
