Put the old one back in and try it and try your new one with a battery outside of the car to see if it actually works.

If your battery is dying from constantly turning over then get another vehicle with jump leads then just keep turning it over as could be just an air lock.i had this once with a bmw.

If car wasn't working originally with old pump then must be a different fault if old pump works outside of car.
