Default AIR RESONATOR DELETE

...sounds like an 1980's acid group.

Anyway: why should I delete my resonator?

I'm fed up of the ****e on the interwebs: level with me. yes or no? Intake noise - good? More cold air - yes? Throttle response- good? Power - bit more?

Or: MAF goes spastic - don't do it. Pointless mod - avoid.

HIT ME.

What year of Impreza is this on?

I have a 1998 model and will be deleting mine. My mate did it on his and made the turbo flutter sound appear. On a 1993 Impreza wrx.

2006 STi 2.5.

I popped a Green high-flow filter in, and I'm looking for induction roar with no loss of powah!

I read up about this years ago and never got around to doing it on my hawk. Basically no performance benefit at all by doing this mod, which was proven. Bit more noise though. The snorkel stops large particles like bees, birds and flying elephants from getting to your air filter panel. But that said, the air filter panel still stops these getting into your intake. So makes no real difference either way.

If you want more noise, get rid of the snorkel and change your panel filter more often.

Job done.

Of course it will need replacing with a pipe of some sort to direct air flow. Sure there was a picture thread on this.

Ooooooh any pictures? Know you can get them for the version 1,2 as resonator is under the bonnet. Never seen them for later models.

The resonator in the wing also acts as a hopper for large debris, leafs and crud that gets through the intake. If you want unrestricted access for all that to your air filter then crack on.

If you replace it often enough shouldn't matter. My daily always has leaves and stuff in the air box.

The idea of an air filter is to filter air. If it is constantly filling with crud it is not filtering. Constantly changing it is a waste and the millions spent on R&D were not wasted.

i hear what you are saying about the resonators in the wing being a water/crud catcher, but, after 10 yrs of owning mine before i changed to the resonator delete there wasnt 1 leaf/bit of crud in the wing resonator when i removed it, guess it depends if you off road often or not lol

I removed the resonator on my old 2.0L SG Forester XT and fitted a velocity stack from the inner wing into the airbox to improve the flow. Was high in the wing and protected by the wing liner not to be affected by water/muck ingress. Made a great sound track

My WRX STI saloon is another matter.
The OEM air feed goes direct into the filter box which has the resonator on the bottom of it. Whilst this is good for the ram air function , on more than one occassion, on a very wet day on the M1 going up through the various roadworks enough water/debris was picked up to vitually choke the life out of the filter. Sufficient to pull a P0172 SYSTEM TOO RICH (BANK 1)

Only drive mine in the summer. Can't see getting that much crude in it. Must be away around it. To increase induction noise.
