Looking to buy a TSL Group N back box
#6
From what I read this exhaust has a nice balance, good sound without being ott and a subtle look, I'm not a fan of massive exhaust tips. Currently I have the Prodrive exhaust, I think the TSL would make a small but noticeable difference.

Yep, it's a shame the no longer make these as I really like them too. Just a perfect sound. Mine had a de-resonated centre pipe too and I got no cabin drone at all, just a lovely low subaru burble that was good every day and sounded great without being far too loud on full chat. Love them!

This weekend I tried a Prodrive P1 GC8 backbox exhaust (small exhaust tip) on my 2005 STI and it sounded better than what I currently have, similar up until 3500 RPM but then it opened to an agressive "whoosh" sound up until the redline, very nice but still not exactly what I'm looking for.

No I haven't owned a racebox, but there are plenty of sound clips online on their site and youtube.
You'll find most systems on youtube so I would recommend trawling through that to find what you want.

What do you mean the price is high? That's bang on the right money for one of those systems second hand. I paid slightly more than that for mine second hand then cut it into bits to fit my FSTI.

I've had both the Prodrive and TSL Grp N on my Classic, the TSL definitely sounds better without being offensive, I had a Cobra before and that was really loud. Think I paid about £100 delivered for the TSL.
They're a similar size both in silencer size
And tip size
And the TSL fitted
You can see why the Cobra was so much louder, the silencer is half the size

Thanks for the input, I don't understand how the TSL is noticeably louder than the Prodrive given that the silencer in both is the same size? Is it really much louder than the Prodrive? The Prodrive I currently have on my Newage has no sound at all.
That Cobra exhaust must be one of the loudest, I think they also make quieter models.

It will be down to the internal design of the silencer, I expect the Prodrive would have been a compromise between noise and gas flow whereas most after market will be more concerned with the flow of gases rather than keeping noise levels down.

I managed to find a TSL Group N exhaust in a online store, they didn't know what exhaust that was, was announced as "aftermarket exhaust" and it was fitted previously to a RB320.
Paid 84 pounds + shipping which was a good price

Yeah, they arent cheap, I've had mine a while. I just used the rebuild budget as an excuse to spend money on what i've wanted forever. I hope its a little louder, somewhere between the TSL and a Nur Spec.

I took my Genome off and sold it in preference for my TSL system. The Genone has a restrictor at the entrance to the rear box to narrow the gas entry and make it travel faster through the box. As a result it sounds very loud indeed and very angry on full throttle, but ultimately restricted the gas too much and my car made far more power with the TSL system fitted and sounded better IMO.
