Default looking for a project to build

Hi guys, looking at potential projects/money pits to build over next few years and a Scooby is one of the cars on the list, I'd probably looking to pick up a GC (98-2000 ish)_ chassis and then have all the stuff from a newer car swapped into it, thing is my knowledge of Scoobys is pretty limited so i don't really know where the cut off point for transferring stuff over from XX chassis code fairly easily stops, I would ideally pick up an accident damaged car that way i'm not doing it from parts on ebay and it costing much more long term, I'm no stranger to modified cars/running gear swaps and was a mechanic a long time ago in a galaxy far far away so its not completely out of my depth or ability, its just my knowledge of scooby part interchangablity is lacking, I would eventually look to build something around the 400bhp mark, and would want an adjustable Centre diff too ...so what donor cars am i best looking out for? thanks in advance

Even if someone can point me to some threads that explains what engine and running gear, subframes etc fit in what car that would be great.

cheers

There's few things that aren't interchangeable tbh.

I've got a GC8 with everything swapped from a widetrack STI. I bought it already built. There was an issue with the steering column UJ and the rear suspenion top mounts had to be modded to fit but apart from that its a fairly straight foward swap.

The only issues other than above i can think off is when mix and matching Spec C or the like to classic 6 speed to 5 speed and widetrack to non widetrack.

I'm not quite at the purchasing stage yet, i like to get plenty of research done by reading forum builds and finding out what the typical obstacles i will hit along the way are that way i have a pretty clear plan and path of going from point A to point B

Lewis so what year/chassis's get to the point where there is just too much modifying everything where swaps not worth doing? Hawkeye?

Underneath I'm not sure how different the hatches (08-) are compared to hawk (05-07). There's more knowledgeable than me on here that could advise. Up to the last Hawk STI wouldnt be too much trouble as they're the same underneath as the widetrack blob (MY05 - 54/05/55 and a few 06 registered ones).

One thing is for sure, avoid a second hand 2.5 unless there's a good rebuild receipt.
