Windscreen seal...

Windscreen seal...
Hi all,
2007 Hawk.
My windscreen seal is now looking very perished and full of tiny cracks etc, needs replacing.
Question is (and it may be a silly one) but does the windscreen have to be removed to remove and re-fit a new seal?
I doubt a new seal is cheap of course, but can I replace it without having a windscreen place remove the screen etc?
Many thanks.

Thanks Shreks...I hadn't considered that. My screen at the moment is in a pretty bad way with chips I guess. I would want a genuine screen though ideally, not a copy...would my insurance company allow genuine OEM bits?

Give them a call and give the windscreen place a call and tell them your seal has been damaged by a stone aswell as your window and hopefully they will sort it.

The seal (molding) has a "U" shaped channel where it is glued/bonded to the edge of the glass, so effectively can only be replaced when the glass is replaced.
See pages 3 & 4 of Windscreen glass pdf attached, it will give you a better idea of how/where it goes
Some glass fitters try and reuse the old one, but it's usually ineffective.
As above: If you have a new screen fitted ask for a new seal as well.
