Default R180 Diff for a Bugeye - Advice needed please

After careful testing and examination the R180 rear differential on the 6-speed conversion on my Bugeye is confirmed as knackered (oil all clean and good but copious lash and noisy moaning above 30mph).

I need to find a replacement diff to bolt straight in.

I had thought that there was just one variety of R180 but from early research it seems that there are more: 3.9, 4.1, 4.44, JDM or UK, for dccd and non-dccd.

My 6-speed conversion package came COMPLETE (from shifter **** to rear Brembo brakes) from a UK Bugeye STi.

The gearbox is a non-dccd TY856WN2CA

So exactly what spec R180 diff do I need to find for a straightforward bolt in replacement? Is it the same diff as used on a UK blob?

Thanks in advance.

UK 6speed cars all ran a 3.54 ratio rear R180 diff

4.44 was only used on JDM STi RA, etc. and the 3.9 variant on JDM bug, blobs, etc.......nothing ever ran 4.1 R180 wise

why not just get it rebuilt , at least you know you have a good diff after that , turn around to rebuild one where i used to go plus including fitting was not that much and done in less than a week

Apologies for my confusion.

So, can I fit any R180 from a UK bug, blob or hawkeye? Is dccd or non-dccd relevant?

I keep driving the car to places, leaving it there while Mrs SWS drives me home, then she drops me back a few weeks later to collect the car and a large bill.

Now Mrs SWS is starting to ask awkward questions...

If I can find the right one I'd be more than happy to have it rebuilt and bolted in same day.

I just need to know which ones will fit.

Hi , mine was a while ago , a chap did it near watford train station in herts , i think it was about 450 500 , which was a take it off plus rebuild and bolt back on , it was just a small back street shop but well recommended , it was either queens road or woodford road in watford , i will see if he is still there by a bit of google ,

I think.. it’s southern axle services in watford , been a while but still looks like he’s still trading , i broke a diff spline / tooth on another car which was why mine was rebuilt , a lot of diff issues seem to just need new bearings and put back together properly as subaru diffs and gearboxes , well sti gearboxes are normally quite tough from what i have heard

I managed to locate a 'checked and tested' UK spec 3.54 ratio rear R180 diff off eBay for a very reasonable price and it's now fitted and working fine.

Many thanks to all for your advice.

Sam
