AT or MT on JDM Foresters..
JDM Foresters seem to be more Auto transmission.
Are they better than a manual?
I take it they use a bit more juice... As I've found when having auto box on cars previously.
Quite fancy a Cross Sport Forester.
But most seem autos.

the earlier subaru’s apparently having an auto was an optional extra , autos tend not to take as much grunt ,so not as tuneable , not as quick , nice to drive if you are feeling lazy ,expensive to convert to manual .. gearbox propshaft etc more prone to breaking mine went at about 60k , and more difficult to find parts v a manual box , get an sg9 Fsti can’t go wrong and a lot of fun , only negative is the reliability of the 2.5 but that never put me off

Bear with me..
I bought a 2.5 XTEn auto from DCY Europe near York which had been traded in for a Sport cross import auto. The owner loved it and unless you are *that* bothered about performance, there's not much in it (2.5 /2.0 auto) . Any torque convertor auto is going to sap some of the engine power, but the flip side is it will settle into top gear fairly quickly. What you might find is that you lose some of the aural drama from revving a flat four that you get in a manual - just depends how you drive.

it's not so much performance... its 2.0l road tax is cheaper lol than the 2.5.
also the spec of a Cross Sport S edition is quite nice too.

My mum has a sports cross which was freshly imported by quay vehicle solutions she’s had it about a year now, I’ve driven it alot
And I have to say I’m very impressed with it it’s definitely not slow either, I will see if I have some pics.

Downside - diff bearing whine above 40mph. Believed to be centre diff.
I’m selling due to getting my R205.

Funny you mention the whine... my Forester Sport has the same you hear it.. I can hear it!! but the more speed the louder. you don't hear it up hill.. but down hill and flat driving yes.
had it on my local garage on the ramps this morning..... narrowed it down to the OSR wheel bearing. (spun wheels and you hear it on that whee)
My guy said he could fix it but not for a months... he's busy working on RR's and Bentley's!!!
So got it booked in at Subaru Nottingham for next friday... approx cost £180.
I've got a mint (for its age) 2002 Forester Sport.. not done 64k miles yet. so need it right
You sure yours is rear diff?
Show me some more pix of yours please
what spec is it?

Unfortunately it’s definitely in the gearbox with mine, as it’s been up on a ramp to check it out - hence believed to be centre diff related. Has no effect on the drive at all, just a noise.
There is another SN member interested in my car and is going to have a look in a couple of weeks. If that falls through, I’ll be putting it up for sale properly and I may have a go at getting the noise fixed beforehand

no its simply because JDM cars do not fit into the UK emissions profile so they are charged at the flat rate.............
2.5ltrs FSTi's and Legacy 2.5Turbo, etc. all are on the lower charge

A correction on the car tax , it depends on the import report for the car , if it shows zero on the co emissions tax is around 265£ , if it shows a co emissions figure tax goes up , i have two fsti one at 265£ the newer 07 plate , then an 05 plate i pay 325£ on as it shows a co figure , if you buy from an importer worth asking what co figure it was bought into the uk on , if it’s zero then great

I have had a few from ProDrift UK based in Kent, Charlie is a great bloke but like many would recommend Torque GT as a starting point. I like the Sport Cross and if the WR Leggy went would consider one. My FSTi days are now behind me :-)

Quay seem to charge about £1500 to 2000 more than other importers, not sure why though.
