Calling all Lancashire & Yorkshire Scoobynetters
#1
This post has 2 objectives:
1. To find out just how many Scoobynetters are from Lancashire and Yorkshire, and who you all are, so show yourself
2. To help me find a job ASAP. Basically I have handed my notice in at work due to rising pressures, unhelpful boss, long hours, low pay, and 20k miles per year. I need to find a new job by the 15th June so could do with some help from all of my Scoobynet pals & contacts.
I have worked for 5 years now in Marketing, Account Handling, Project Management, Logistics, Computer Software logistics, and now Travel Communications & IT. I currently work as Intranet Manager for Going Places Leisure and manage our retail Intranet and communications network to over 800 shops. I previously worked for Airtours for 18 months as communications co-ordinator for our 45 Overseas resorts.
I have a Marketing HND and Business Communication Degree and plenty of IT skills including MS Office, FrontPage, Image Composer, Project, Macromedia Flash, Fireworks, Dreamweaver (hence the name ), as well as Adobe Photoshop, Database, HTML, JavaScript etc etc. I have worked on plenty of design projects, design websites in my spare time, and have designed a full intranet for Airtours. I am also a spreadsheet and general PC king.
I want to ideally move into web design, e-commerce, IT management, project management, but am willing to take anything at the moment that involves IT.
I live near Burnley and want something in between Burnley & Manchester, or Burnley & Skipton.
<B>IMPORTANT BIT</B>
Please could you have a word with your contacts, or your personnel department and contact me if there are any vacancies that you know of. I am interested in anything in this area that pays decent ish money. I am a good worker, ambitious, clever and have lots of skills and experience, as well as an unhealthy interest in Scoobys, MR2's, motorsport and cars.
Please use my profile email address - sp@impreza.fsnet.co.uk
I am registered with all the various job sites but dont fancy relying solely on them as they tend to throw up some spurious results. Job agency's also do a lot of ringing with job specs but then you hear nothing.
Please help me to keep the new MR2 I've had for 4 weeks now as I love it.
Cheers
Simon (DW)

Hi m8, good luck with your job hunt. I work for Telewest in Bradford and a guy in our dept lives in Burnley. Doesn't have much problem getting to work in a morning. If your interested, send me a copy of you CV and I'll pass it on to our HR dept. That's how I got a job here - not a bad company to work for but I suppose I'll get some comments from other Telewest employees stating other wise Hope you're not selling the car already
Good luck m8 and I'll have to sort a night out when I'm back from Scotland - Gatecrashed the cambridge meet last week as I was down there on a course. Was a really good night and we should have one too.
Scoobabe - where abouts are you and what do you drive? Most of the scoobdrivers I see around Harrogate are all ancient and the only drivers who flash are the cop scoobs (Got pulled by one a few months ago near Skipton)

Cheers for the support everyone.
Charlie - we definately need to arrange something in the near future - I will forward you my CV this week at some stage.
Tony - thanks for the tip off, I may look into the Carcraft thing, although that is near where I work now!! (Sandbrook).
Anyone else any ideas?

Charlie, I live on the outskirts of Sheffield, but do sometimes go to the Harrogate area. I drive a V plate DBM no mods as yet! Sorry to hear you got spotted by those unfriendly drivers, hope they weren't too hard on you.
What do you drive if ever our paths cross?

Hi guys,
Yep I'm from Yorkshire too. Live in Leeds and work in Harrogate.
DW,
Sorry to hear that you've been forced to resign from your current job. I work in IT, so I'll ask around for any possible jobs going. I've always found

Sorry you found it necessary to resign, never going to see you on the 62 at this rate!
We only employ around a dozen It staff and that potential opening appears to have evaporated with the introduction of further rationailsation (budget cuts).
Will let you know if I hear of anything. Whats wrong with carcraft anyway..could source a Scoob at trade

Thinking about it - you would surely be best staying with Airtours/Going Places for a while longer, with the dual re-location there is surely plenty of CV-enhancing roles around?
..and with an iminant Japanese Garden outside the restaurant, surely a no-brainer!!

I'm another that hails from the Dales.
Live near Harrogate and work in West Yorkshire on the A&E side of the ambulance service (WYMAS). Not really much in common career wise I'm afraid Simon.
I wonder if I'm one of the 'ancients' that charlie refers to? (I hasten to add I'm only 34 and always try to acknowledge any other scoobs that pass my way- I'm not an old, ignorant, miserable git-honest.)

Cheers again everyone - It sounds harsh resigning these days, but the way I see it, you spend 5 out of 7 days there and need to be happy (ish).
There are some tough decisions to be made over the next few days - one of them being the fact that I have £1000 holiday concession to use before the 15th June
Looks like Dales Run 2 will have to take a back seat to a 5* hotel in Amsterdam next weekend fully paid up
GaryC - Maybe you are right - they have near as damn it offered me another position working in internal comms so I will apply and see what happens - it is slightly less money but there may be other things come up. The Jap Garden is already there, though no performance parts trees are growing as yet!!!
DW
I'll keep you all informed. Gary - I will send you my CV anyway.

Mojo, I was out at Santa pod all day Sunday so you probably wouldn't of seen me! I've got a Fiesta si, dark blue/black, cossie front spoiler and clear rear light clusters.
Any of you guys fancy a meet, I've been trying to organise one with DW and Charlie at Greenhow, not too far from H'gate, I'm not sure of dates and times yet though.

Scoobabe-I drive a black 93 WRX with gold STI 5 spokes, clear indicators and a 99 spec spoiler. My baby only comes out to play at weekends as I drive a sh1tty 65 bhp van during the week Let me know next time you're coming up if you like and I'll look out for you.
Rob-You're not one of the "ancient drivers" I was talking about, (I'm 30, going on 25 ) most the ones I see seem to be in their seventies, peering over the steering wheel, doing about 20 mph in a 60 zone
DW-I'm away next week but I'll take your cv to work when I get back. Good luck in the meantime
Charlie
