Will be an interesting auction that one.
Looks like a good quality example with low mileage.

Absolutely, but he does more roadtrip stuff with his collections(might not want to put the mileage on it and to hardcore),more like EVO magazine for you tube.Interestingly enough he does talk about the car a bit on his channel when advertising the auction, its 29.45secs in the video.

They were £71k new at 2020 prices. So have made 3% compound interest over 22 years. Less storage, insurance, maintenance etc. Alternatively, sticking the money in a FTSE tracker over the same period would return £200k+
As ever, most cars only see big value rises if they aren't driven, which makes ownership a little pointless, when the money could be better invested.
Any car you can buy and actually enjoy driving, yet not suffer any depreciation is golden. Cars that actually increase in value in real terms are very few and far between.

Ive done as you describe, except I have a car that Ive owned 15 years, done 25 trackdays and going for a Sunday evening jaunt drive that is so under the radar, that is exceptionly rare hardly anybody knows what it,and those that do say what a great car it was.The engine is tuneable for a 1000hp and its cheap as as chips to buy.I put my away in the way you suggested and will reap the benefits.

I have no issues with prices rising but would you pay £100k+ for a Subaru? Let's face it, no Subaru is going to win beauty contests and build quality isn't great. I personally think the 22B interior is drab. Steering wheel and seats look cheaper than an equivalent year type R. Was the 22B a game changer? No. Does it drive better than a type R or P1? No. Was it not proven that it's actually slightly slower than a type R?
I'd rather buy a CSL - a much better car that will run rings around a 22B AND you have enough money left over to possibly buy another one. Two CSL's for the price of one Subaru. It's a no brainer.

Car values aren't based on how good a car is, there of plenty of multi million pound vehicles out there that wouldn't come close to the 22B from a 'drivers' point of view.

Most expensive car i have worked on was worth £52 Million, i could build one from scratch for maybe £300K if it was rolled into a ball.

Nail on head.
Market value is all about rarity and nostalgia (with a bit of an eye to future values). Very little to do with what the car cost new, or how it drives compared to anything else.
The older I get, the more nostalgic I’m getting for the Group A period of rallying in the 90s with Impreza vs Evo for example.

What bugs me is when actual members on forums like this priced their cars higher than usual (1-2k more than market value), they were laughed at and called dreamers etc but now that these auction houses are selling them for ridiculous money no one blinks an eyelid and it's accepted as the norm.
