Default 330 miles from a tank in a Classic - a new record (for me)

My other, diesel car is in the garage being miserable so I took the turbo wagon up North and back.

I can only remember doing over 300 miles once when I had my Imprezas in the late 90s and early 00's.

Must be getting old, but did enjoy losing a couple of tailgaters by sticking to my 60mph round a couple of tightish bends.

Anyone done more miles ? My worst was 145 by the way...

That's good going. Never managed more than 250ish in mine but I never let it go lower than the quarter mark.

4 laps of the Nurburgring nearly finishes off a tank, it's about 1/4 tank per lap which is about 12 miles

i’ve managed 460 miles on a few occasions to one tank doing 70 mph , you have to concentrate but it’s very do able , car is an 05 forester sti , it’s about the same as my monaro 35 mpg out of a 5.7 quite heavily tuned and lower geared diff , 5.7 v8 with 440bhp and the same foot pound torque , it just has a fairly long 6 Th gear so that can do 580 miles to a tank , or 61 miles to a tank if you boot it 🤣🤣

i don’t often drive that sensibly , but it’s nice to know on a long run that it can do decent mpg , i go to scotland every so often , my friend said lots of speed cameras and vans so not going to go very quick any way , plus it was great scenery on the way there

Adding to the above , a good remap on a car makes a lot of difference , as at cruise rpm/speed it can be leaned off slightly , it’s worth the remap v the mpg improvement over a period of time , i expect within a couple of years what you spend on the map is got back in fuel costs , the only problem in a remap how often do you drive sensibly lol 🤣

Noticed this on a trip to Germany, friend running a mapped V6 UK Classic with a bigger turbo needed less fuel at the first stop in Belgium than I did in an unmapped V5 UK Classic running a TD04 despite us both topping up in Folkestone before getting on the train.

loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool driving around the city and I barely get 70 miles out of a full tank. On a motorway run doing about 67mph will get more normally. Think I managed 250miles on a full tank once. I feel like counting in kilometres so the number look higher but then who buys these purely for the economy

Tempting! I live in South London and my elderly parents live in Glasgow. In the current climate I don't want them getting on a train to see their granddaughter - remap for motorway economy in 5th sounds intriguing...

Anyone ever experimented with low-drag aero?

Aero , i’ve eaten a few of them , especially the mint one 🤣🤣 but no don’t know what you mean , Richard at FB tuning is not far from you . the further you travel and miles covered the quicker you would benefit by getting it mapped , one of my fsti was remapped by some one else i don’t know who , the other one was done by Richard , power delivery is smoother and better and mpg is a lot better on the Richard mapped car , the one mapped by some one else is going in for a remap/tweak , i’m fine with the power it produces just does not do it as well , secret with fuel economy , anticipate hills up or down , very light throttle and no boost , you just have to plan ahead so it makes a sometimes a boring journey a bit more of a challenge 😁

I used to do Bristol to Newcastle weekly for work which is ~ 300 miles and I could do it on a tank. It is all motorway but would be 80mph+ excluding roadworks. 330 miles probably max until down to fumes. That was in a high mileage WRX PPP.

I've done many full to full MPG calcs using petrol receipts and it's always 28mpg.

I’m on 170 miles now with a quarter of a tank left so will probably fill up soon. That’s a 2005 blobeye running 340bhp on vpower only. Not good but I don’t care
