JDM Turbo Forester..Remap noob questions,price, why,where..
Car is a 2008 Turbo Forester EJ205 engine JDM import,
I'm not really concerned about more power, but is a remap worth doing for UK fuel - better engine health?
FB Tunning is not too far from me....can someone tell me what I'm loking at in terms of pricing for a remap with them and if it's really worth it if not interested in any performance gain..

Hi , Richard at Fb is the best place to go , he’s mapped four of my Fsti , you get a better driving car with more power if you need it , he can lean off your cruise speed fuel so mpg will improve , it will be around 350£ but over the years you will save that in mpg if you drive it sensibly , even if you don’t drive it sensibly it will still pay for itself , a lot of jdm cars run ok on sul as the jdm fuel can be 100 ron plus so it is worth getting it checked any way , you may as well remap whilst you are there

From your previous tyre thread we've established that it's a gen3 (SH) Forester, 2008 making it most likely, in JDM terms, a Revision "A" model (built between Sept 2007 and Jan 2009).
Those that have imported late model SG "Cross Sport" models (EJ205 engine) have found that due to the model of ECU fitted they need to go Ecutek only for tuning rather than Opensource.

I might just leave it then, was just going to take it to FB Tuning for a general health check and replace some fluids...again I'm not bothered about any performance gains it's more than enough car for me...

He can map check it any way , he is very good at tuning so maybe he can advise you , if he can tune it which i expect he can , it’s even worth doing it for mpg improvement on its own , i have two well three fsti 🤣, the ones mapped by him give better mpg plus power when you want it plus are much smoother power delivery than the one not tuned by him

I'll give FB tuning a shout then...

yarp three of them lol , the mrs has nicked one of mine , a silver one with a forged engine , her last one went onto 198k miles till i scrapped it due to rust and she pranged it a bit 😕 i have a blue and black (grey ) one , the blue one looks the best , my insurance is only 450 per year but i have a fair bit of no claims , i have had a number of subaru’s over last 15 years or so , the fsti being the best all rounder , big boot , no lag as it’s on full boost at 2000 rpm , good mpg 35 mpg on a run when driven sensibly 🤣 and goes like a stabbed rat , they have all had re maps coilovers sports cat , centre section delete and louder back boxes done , the only down side is the strength of the 2.5 engine , it’s one of those things if it goes it’s still a great car , the lag i had on my sti jdm 2 litre wagon was not good , even with it have more power than the older fsti , the fsti just left it for dead not only off the lights but at higher speeds , i have a 5.7 and a 6.2 v8 , i still think the fsti would see them off the lights , higher speed i don’t know , the top ends on the v8 are a lot more than a scooby can do but i would love a drag race some where legal to find out 🤣 the 6.2 , a 1 mile drag from stationary it hits an accurate 155 mph

Very nice, I like the grey/black one best ! Is rust a big problem for JDM imports? I had mine undersealed and cavity protection done as soon as possible after landing...but I heard even so you want to check it every year....

Few things to be weary of when having a car mapped,
1. Time taken. If they are booking 10 cars in a day walk away, can take a full day to map a car properly 'mapping day's' are to be avoided. Normaly its a few hours.
2. Road mapping vs dyno mapping. Depends how you see it, after a dyno map the car MUST!!!! be road finished/tested though. Your own insurance won't cover you while its being mapped on the road, so you want to just hand over the keys and pick up a finished car.
3. Faults can NOT be mapped round, if it has a fault, it needs to be fixed before its mapped.
Avoid racedynamics/dungkhan graham as he ignores all of the above.

I won't go somewhere specifically just for a tune, as I don't trust it won't do more harm than good, and as I said coming from VW passat TDI , Ford Focuses and Toyota Hilux this thing is a beast compared to what I had in the past I can't see myself ever needing more power I drive like and old lady most of the time anyway...

Thank you! If FB Tuning can't do it (I'll try take it there for a general service / health check) then I'll leave it as it is not worth the effort to me to be honest...

on the sg models the rear offside sill is the only rust i’ve had , fresh imports are good as they are normally but not always, in good nick , i agree map wise it’s a good investment mpg wise plus engine running wise , plus you do get a load of grunt , you say you are not looking to map , worth being in a maped car it’s very different , i did not map the fsti to start with , after the map was done , thought i wish i did it before

OK I'll look into it more, the only EcuTek Master Tuner close by is Sanspeed have you guys heard of them? http://sanspeed.co.uk

''You need to go on the ECU TEK website. For the Cross Sports you need a MASTER TUNER. It’s got icons of each outlets rating. Otherwise you will find they can’t get into the ECU. If too look at my posts on this you can see how the whole thing evolved. Good luck. It’s worth it, car goes like a dream.''

Apparently needs to be EcuTek maser tuner othewise they can't access the ECU....quoted below from another forum, it could be bull**** though I have zero knowledge about such things......
