Ordered mine 9th Feb. I think the dealer is taking the mick. Was told end of May that car had arrived in UK, and would take a month to get to the dealer - I was pretty hacked off after originally being told it would be here in June, but was told today that the car is still at sea, and being honest I'll be lucky to see it before the end of July.

Is this other peoples experience? Right now I feel like cancelling the order and getting a demonstrator off another dealer. Its costing me money now - My turbo needs a service (which I've put off) and two new tyres.

It looks to me like a large allocation of new cars went to dealers as demonstraters. Have a look on the Subaru website used car section and do a nationwide search. See how many ex demo's are for sale. Personally I would be tempted to wait, but if you can't I don't think you could go wrong with a low mileage ex demo. Shop around

I believe that the "Subaru boat" landed on the 21st of May (or something similar). I think it usually takes a good 4 weeks from that to the cars arriving at the dealers which means you should be close.

I would wait and not touch an ex-demo STi with a barge poll!!!!

Tell your dealer your pi$$ed off with the waiting and get him to do the service for you FOC.
Dont buy a demo car. Wait for your new one, belive me me its worth the wait.

Chip.

What's the big deal with buying an ex demo model?

There are loads on the Subaru website, and you have got the better part of 3 years warranty to run so you won't have any problems till at least 2005.

Am i missing something?

I was told very similar to you, but luckily mine has arrived. If you are pissed off, ES Jones in Wales has a WR Blue (non prodrive) in their showroom, unsold. I'm sure they are keen to shift it.

Cheam motors in Surrey have a brand new non prodive in Black and a prodrive in WRblue if you want one tomorrow. And no I don't work for them.

Having read on here how some of these demonstrators have been thrashed by 'prospective customers' before they have passed the break in period, then they are best avoided.

I phoned the dealer this morning to check on progress. The car was still on the boat from Japan. Dealer phoned me this afternoon and the car had been unloaded, had its alarms and UK bits fitted and was in transit to the dealer. We are scheduling 1st July collection date, after the wheels have been dealt with and a couple of other bits done.

How weird is that? Still, I'm not complaining any more. Looks as though we could be heading for a happy ending.

Well, from own personal experience, i wouldn't go near an ex-demo either, cos i know exactly how i treated the one i drove - thraped it to within an inch if its life! it was bloody marvellous though. Just think that everyone's probably done that to it in its short time, and you get to see why people don't want them.
